My mum also has a motorola funnily enough, she got it 2 years ago, Motorola Defy. I told her not to actually, as Motorola wasn't great, but she did, and says it was one of the best choices she made. Their apps are just fab, and as you said, they're reasonably priced. I couldn't afford to outright buy mine, which was why I was so chuffed to get it on contract, but I watch youtube videos to see reviews to see if they're worth buying, maybe that'll help you decide? Another good way is to visualise you actually owning the phone, which one would suit you better, which would you prefer to have and look at? Just some ideas I used to help me decide between the galaxy Ace II (which turns out isn't very good according to reviews aganist the motorola RAZR i) and my Razr i :)

Here's a link to what made me decide between the two:

Hope this helps :D

If you can afford it, I'd say go with an iPhone.  I swapped to an iPhone after wrestling with a Blackberry Bold for less than a year. ><  SUCH a nice little phone!  I even got my mom to switch over from her Andriod and now she's hooked.

Let me chime in with the iPhone lovers.
I started with a 3G in 2009 and now have a 4 since early 2011. The size is perfect, neither something teeny-tiny, nor a phone in the size of a baking sheet. I don't have problems with file formats, transfers and such, quality and usability are outstanding, as well as the Apple support. I've owned several mobile phones since 1999 - yet the iPhone is pretty much the first one I actually use. Wouldn't want any other brand.

I switched from a Motorola to an iPhone 4S last year. I'm so glad I did. The motorola was a pain, it would crash all the time and after a few months, the charging port came un-attached from the motherboard. I've discovered with technology you get what you pay for. I can't see me ever going back to an Android phone.

However, my hubby has a Samsung Galaxy, he's only had it a few months but so far he really likes it a lot.

Icecrystalline, the Ace is what I had. Piece of junk. So glad you dodged that bullet, mine lasted 6 months, and I don't want a warranty repair or replacement - I'm ditching it and moving on!

My hubby actually has the iphone 4, and we've been having dramas with it for a while now - it has slow days, sometimes it crashes, the firmware doesn't update much anymore if at all and my hubby is always cursing the infernal thing. My BIL swears by the newer ones, but I'm really not after something that's locked to a network, and that's the only way you can buy them here. I also prefer most of the android apps to their apple equivalents, there are things I could do on my android that hubby couldn't do on his iphone. I do like the size of the iphone though.

That's the point for the RAZR actually, I like the size as opposed to the Galaxy. Will the galaxy fit in the pocket of my riding vest? There's a good question! Looks like I'm wearing it to the shops next time I go, LOL!

I have never had a smartphone until two weeks ago and I got the Samsung Galaxy S III and love it!  So easy to use and the screen is not to small but not too big.  But I also heard LG phones are really nice.  So many choices - good luck!
