eBay problems :/ Update

I finally emailed my seller on eBay wondering if they had shipped my product after four days. They responded quickly and said that Canadian post no longer does surface mail to the United States so shipping will be more expensive now. I paid $25 to have my item shipped. They are now speculating $38. I'm a little upset :/.

Wow, that's horrible.  They should have responded to you sooner and they should take responsibility for their miscalculation.

It is against eBay policy for a seller to ask for more money once the auction has ended. It was her responsibility to make sure her info was correct and up to date.

I am not sure how bad you want this item  as in if you want to pay the extra shipping but you are under no obligation to. And if it were me I would probably not.

I would write back and explain to her that it is against ebay policy to ask for more money.  If she is noncooperative you can file a dispute with Paypal and report her to eBay.

They didn't research rates before listing shipping to the US? That service was discontinued back in the beginning of January...

I would ask for a full refund instead. I don't know if there is anything you can do since the post office no longer carries that option.

Unfortunately I do want my item. I'll just let the seller know that I'm not happy with their lack of preparation and their delay in letting me know about the situation. If I hadn't have asked would they have eventually told me probably but they shouldn't have taken that long.

I just sold 3 items and I used the calculated shipping option...which completely backfired on me!! I had to pay $10 out of my own pocket to cover the correct shipping cost...I don't do much ebay selling, but even I know if the seller makes a shipping mistake they usually have to pay the difference!!!

That is backwards that she didn't message you to let you know...She was probably was mad because she know she will have to pay the extra...what $13 to cover the costs!!! Its not a fun feeling!!! But makes you wiser next time!

Update: they just messaged me and let me know that they changed the box and the shipping was cheaper. They sent my item. I'm glad it's cleared up. Thanks for the responses.

I'm happy to know its all worked out ok in the end for you   it can be really frustrating when sellers try and make buyers pay for their shipping calculation mistakes

Regardless of the shipping cost...  this behavior is concerning!    Not even communicating with you after you made payment?  Finally responding to your inquiry with shipping costs had gone up and they want more money?  NOT OKAY!  either act like a business or don't sell on ebay.  Sometimes that means taking a loss when you aren't prepared/informed.
