I have a 'doll washing machine' - basically a lidded plastic Chinese take-out container, but a margarine bowl or anything with a lid will work. Prefer the take-out one 'cause it's all transparent. I run it half-full with a few drops of hand soap and cool water, toss in a clothing article one at a time, and shake, shake, shake their laundry ! It gets all sudsy and spun around in just a minute or two, and i can tell instantly if it starts to run or bleed. So far so good, since I use cool water, I haven't had a problem. I often see the dirt in the water. So I usually get fresh wash water and soap with every item I need to wash. Doesn't use that much.
Once it's spun around, right round, enough, I either rinse it at the tap, or dump the wash water and shake it in clean cool water, either way. Never wring stuff out, but you can roll clothes up in a clean towel, then squeeze the towel a bit, to get out some of the water. I usually dry my doll clothes on a doll, especially if I have doll bodies I use just for fittings or projects. I wouldn't trust my doll clothes to a dryer, but that's just me.
Hope the fly infestation wasn't a bunch of prospective students on a visit !
