Blog verus Web Site

Okay the long and short of it is I need to start getting my name back out in the world.  But I have no free time to maintain a web site (I have space though) so would it be easier to maintain a blog compared to web site? 

If I go the blog route, any good places?

Watching this.... I want to learn to make a site (brother gifted me dreamweaver for my birthday) but friends keep telling me to use wordpress as it's easier.

*edit to add* the friends who suggested wordpress to me worked jobs involving developing social media for clients and optimizing websites w/ google analytics, design and editing.

If you don't want to go to wordpress.com or google's blogspot, you can also install wordpress on your webspace, if you have PHP/SQL support there. It is really quick and easy to set up and due to its ready-made big choice of customizable skins, easier to make a pleasant layout in a jiffy and add plugins - and you can make it look rather website-ish, too.

The pro and con of a website is that it is rather static and people expect less of daily updates, while a (recognizable) blog requires regular updates and creativity. Whichever you prefer: have fun!

Blogs are a lot easier to maintain, but they do need to be updated regularly.  What's nice is being able to customize a website far more than you can a blog, with nicer options for galleries and such.  But, as flutterwry says, you can also install Wordpress to update your site for a very user-friendly experience while having an easy address and an option to customize a gallery on your own web space.

Wordpress does also have gallery plugins, and what I definitely know is that you can create extra (and static) sites, so you have more than a blog, but a complete website which can easily be updated, even if you don't have HTML/CSS skills. Menu style and design are quite customizable via downloadable skins. The administration panel is quite ok, I've seen worse... MUCH worse.
Hey, wait.... *scans through files* I think I still have some old 'joke' site. I once made it as a tongue-in-cheek demo for someone else: there it is. That's an older Wordpress from 2010 I haven't updated since. Thus I am sure today it's even easier and prettier.

I have a blog and I adore it, however I do think I need to keep it updated. People don't expect a website to be updated as often as a blog needs to be. I need to post every couple days at the very least or my viewership drops sharply. Never made a website so I can't tell you much about it. I'll just say I have very little computer training and a blog is very user friendly.
