Moxie Teen Melrose, custom WIP
« on: December 31, 2012, 03:34:36 PM »
I love thrift stores and came home with this girl. I didn't know anything about her but I knew she'd be a great custom doll project. Someone took a marker to her plastic eyes and got some stray marks on her face.

Fresh from thrift shop.

I cut her head open with my exacto knife to get to the eyes from inside. Since I don't like her dead-fish look, I plan on using pretty glass ones instead. :3

Cutting the head open,

Eyes out and started removing factory paint. Note: I use Winsdor and Newton's brush cleaner and restorer. It's so much easier to use and no risk of staining. Yeah, I know some prominent faceup artists/customizers swear by acetone/nail polish remover, but I hate the stuff. It can eat vinyl and resin and it's easy to stain when removing factory paint. Why scrub when just a few wipes with W & N does the job so much quicker and cleaner? /rant/

Wiped faceup, NOT NAIL POLISH REMOVER.

After removing the eyes, I had to cut the eye wells(?) out to fit the replacement eyes. I carefully used my exacto knife again to cut away the extra plastic material from around the eye holes.

I quickly wiped away the painted scalp. I went back and thoroughly wiped the scalp clean again after this photo was shot.

So cool! I have four Moxie Teenz, and I didn't know what the eyes looked like when they were popped out. Can't wait to see what Melrose looks like when you're done.

 Just got her head back from the artist. I am floored by the work... the marker stains are 100% covered by her airbrush and she took on a bindhi, which is raised and really cool with a 3d effect! Hard to capture with the camera flash... I'll try and take better photos, and I have to figure out what size eyes she will need since all my glass eyes are 14mm or larger. u__u*

Flash makes her face look paler than her body, but I plan on taking some natural light pictures tomorrow.

It's really cool to see a Moxie Teen custom; that faceup makes her look totally different!

I picked up the same doll at a thrift shop for the same reason, but I've been considering getting rid of her 'cause I really kind of hate their faces.  She'll be sticking around though, now that I've seen how nice your custom looks.  ^_^

Oh what a beautiful face!   So she had to airbrush a new skin color over the entire face to hide the purple marker?

Aeryala, I think their eyes are too close together, but that's really my only complaint against the head. When you start working on her, I would love to see what you do with her!

Kobold, she only had to airbrush the stains and a little bit around the eye area. The artist said it was easy to blend and match the skin tone to cover the stains up. Her lashes and brows are brush work and is nice against the airbrush parts of her makeup.

justkitter, Thank you ~! Now I am going to try and figure out if I am going to work on actually getting her complete.

Since starting her, I found out I like working mods rather than actually collecting them.  >_< After watching so many episodes of Supernatural, I sort of want to make her into Kali, the Hindu Goddess of Destruction. It would be difficult to mod her the extra arms though lol

I'll be offering her up for trade or sale shortly. I've got a whole bunch of other projects that I am more interested in right now.

Gorgeous! I'm not sure but I think they use the same size eyes as Pukifees.

I was just thinking of this thread last night ^^
yay, she's back! and now she's like a totally different doll :O it's stunning how great a difference a different paint can do.

looking forward to see her eyes ^^ and I'd also be interested in the eye-size, I'm planning to do an eyeswitch on a MT Tristen if one day I find another one.
