No problems now.

Update 2/5
After seller wrote back saying that was the only way she knew to send the invoice (at least that's what I made out in the translation from French to English) she agreed to just canceling the purchase through ebay.
I'm glad they understood when I told them what I did, but sad I won't be getting my brown Italy Jenny to go with my Macau Jenny since it was such a good price. Hope to find another one soon at a reasonable price. Thanks for the advice!

I won an auction on ebay France who will ship worldwide, but somehow missed the info that they only take personal check ><, I need a member in France who could send them a check and I paypal them the money as I don't know anything about sending checks overseas.

I thought the only way to pay through ebay auctions was paypal? If they are asking for something weird like a personal check, that just screams scam to me. I would only pay through paypal or I wouldn't send payment at all if I were you.

That's what I thought too, but maybe that only applies to ebay US? When I went to pay, the only option I saw was personal check.

edit to add: I noticed through there feedback they have bought from the US using paypal so why not accept it as payment? I sent them a message in French to cancel transaction if they won't accept paypal. I'm not paying any other way as it's not safe.

I don't think they are scammers they just want to avoid paypal fees (I know they aren't much but its very common for european members to ask for bank transfers). I do agree to only use paypal thou, I once sent a transfer to germany and the german bank took 30 euro in fees.. it was a messy situation and paypal would have been way cheaper. If I really want a pony I just ask if they will take paypal and I will cover the paypal fees (And yes I know its ebay doesnt like buyers to cover fees but I am not gifting money just paying extra and I offer :  )

Plush: If you figured out they do actually have a paypal account after all, that is pretty shady. As far as I can tell, you are doing the right thing by only accepting payment through paypal.

Nhal: Your right, they could only be avoiding fees, but then what if something happens and there is no buyer protection from ebay? : /

Exactly! I hope they agree to cancel. I usually ask before bidding if they take paypal, but stupid me assumed since they ship worldwide, they would take it anyway :(. Lesson learned.

look don't get me wrong, like a said I did a bank transfer and it was a disaster, I still got the ponies but the bank fees were horrid for both the seller and I. After that experience I will only pay through paypal when buying aboard.
I just know its common for european countries to pay through bank transfers they just don't realize the intl cost in doing so, also here in nz people only ever pay through bank transfers I would say very few people know about paypal, there properly are scammers in nz but its very few and I have never heard of an issue we just work by honesty and i am guessing people in europe do to : )

Not necessarily, since in France personal checks are still used a lot (I've lived there, so I know what I'm talking about) and sound like a valid option for a French seller willing to avoid paypal fees... However, they are unsafe and I think you did wisely in canceling the transaction.
