*shrug* Collections cost money. That's part of collecting. If the thought of spending a lot of money on the things you love and collect makes you feel ill and guilty, then maybe collecting isn't for you.

As long as you're spending money you have (instead of spending money earmarked for necessities, like shelter and food), it shouldn't make you feel bad. I've spent close $2500 on my collection (rough average over three years). I pay my bills, I have a decent apartment, I have food, and I'm able to occasionally take trips or go and do things. Are there things I could have spent that money on? Of course. I still have a tube TV; but I tend to watch TV on my laptop. I could have invested in more furniture; but I usually go over to friends, since they tend to have pets. Currently, my collection gives me more pleasure than the majority of things I could spend that money on. It's fun, it's safe, and I've met some really cool people. When it stops being fun, I'll stop. If I make back the money, awesome. If I end up dumping everything at Goodwill, the money would have been spent anyway.
