eBay issue. Please help!
« on: January 31, 2013, 08:36:24 PM »
Hey guys,

I've run into a weird problem on eBay. Something I never thought I'd have an issue with.

I sold some LPS toys I bought and decided that I didn't want. A buyer won the auction for just over $20 today. It was the only auction I had not received payment for so I sent an invoice. Right after sending it, I looked at the shipping address and noticed the person is from Brazil. I have it stated in my auction that I will only ship the the USA. :/   To top it off, this person is obviously a newbie with zero feedback. So I sent them a message about it asking if they want a shipping quote to Brazil. Then I thought about it more and decided I just don't want to mess with it. So I opened up a claim stating that I will not sell to them because they want me to ship to a country that I stated that I don't ship to.

Do you guys think eBay will side with me on this one?

Why do people do this? Ugh. I have a feeling this guy is not even intending on paying anyways.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

If your seller settings are set to accept international bids, then yes, Ebay contractually holds the seller to the sale, regardless of what the auction description contains.  Best of luck to get the buyer to amicably cancel the sale.

Its possible that ebay will not side with you unfortunately, but wait and see what they respond with . If not Hopefully the person will agree to cancel the sale... or maybe they wont pay.
I hope it works out ok for you. let us know how it goes

I am so irritated. They did not agree to cancel it. And to make things worse, they won't respond to my messages. I am wondering if there is a language barrier. I am not sure what to do. I just want to scream right now.

I sent them a polite message saying if they want me to ship it, I will have to get a quote and it may be a week before I can ship it due to funds. I also nicely pointed out that the auction stated I ship the the US and nowhere else.

Ugh.....

Sorry. I'm just so angry right now. I just wanted to get rid of these items quickly. If your auction states you ship to the US only, how can stupid eBay side with the buyer? They ALWAYS side with the buyer it seems.

I've had the same dilemma in the past and I know it can be frustrating  :(

My suggestion would be when you get them a quote, get a quote for sending it insured.  That way if it gets lost, you will not be out the cost of the item plus have to refund them shipping.  (This has happened to me before).  If they have an issue with the higher cost of shipping it insured, then you can politely state that they did not ask for a quote or even if you'd be willing to send to their country beforehand.  They may even decide to cancel the sale at that point, but if they don't at least you can rest easy knowing it's insured should something happen to it.

I hope that helps and I hope the buyer understands.  Best of luck

I wouldn't sweat it Dazzle.    Just send them an invoice listing the shipping costs to their country and then proceed as you would with any other winner.  It's pretty simple and you can print your label right through ebay so you don't have to fill out one of those pesky customs forms from the PO.

And in the meantime make sure you go and set your buyer preferences.

Thank you guys. :)  Well, I just realized something. I opened the case and looked more closely and saw typed a response that said 'please don't cancel, please'.  *sigh*  Well, I dunno why they are refusing to respond to my messages.

I suppose tomorrow I'll take the items up to the PO to get a shipping quote. Right now I do NOT have the money to put up for this. They will have to wait until the next deposit hits my bank, or until Paypal does. They won't respond to my messages to let me know that's okay with them. I don't understand. They can respond to my case but not respond to a quick message.

Well, thank you guys for listening to my frustrations. I am immediately going to change my preferences.

Just changed my preferences. Now I will no longer have to worry about this.

Just an update that the person never paid. The eBay username is pjnio2012 in case you want to add them to your blocked list.

It figures that after all that hassel he did not pay.  :argh:

Thanks for the ID though. I do sell some LPS stuff here and there and I don't want to deal with this blockhead.

This is the way I figured this would end considering zero feedback bidders.

This happened to me one time! I sold a pony and in my description I had written I said no international bidders. Well, someone from China I think it was, bid and won the auction. I noticed this when I went to send the invoice and I politely told them that I did not ship internationally. They apologized and agreed to cancel the transaction and I had no problems. I'm so glad too because I ended up loving the pony and keeping her - MGR Diamond Dreams :lovey:

It looks like you'll have to file a NPB claim, I've had to do that before unfortunately :( I waited too long and couldn't get my fees back because the seller kept promising to pay, blaming it on the bank that he had no money. Yeah right!

I'm actually kind of dealing with something like this right now. It regards to a pony and I'm not sure if the buyer is a member here. I hope it's okay to post it here.

I listed a pony with free shipping in the US. The auction was listed as US only. I don't mind shipping elsewhere but I ask that people send me a message beforehand for a quote that is agreed upon.

Well, when the payment did not arrive in the allowed amount of time (five days) I looked at the winner's profile, definitely not from the US. I had not received any messages from them during the auction or after. I sent them a message and clarified that it was listed as US only. They did not want to pay the amount of shipping. (I'm only willing to ship her Priority because of the $ for her sale.)

They are communicating with me, but there's a bit of a language barrier, as well. They stated that they don't know how to cancel the purchase from their end. Is the only other option to report them as a non-paying bidder? I'm trying to be nice and not have to do that.

Any suggestions?
