Are these the real deal??
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:22:57 AM »
I recently purchased Wave 1 Frankie Stein (On the box it says Asst. X8802 X8804) and Draculaura (On the box it says Asst. X8802 X8803)

Can someone please tell me if these are the original versions or are they re-issues/re-releases (not sure what the correct term is)??

*Please bear in mind that I reside in South Africa so we get International Boxes.

Well the first release wouldn't be 2012, it would be earlier dated, can you find a year stamp on the box? I tried looking at the box, but I can't read it. It's the only suggestion I have. I wish you luck.

With a year stamp, do you mean at the bottom of the box? Both say Copyright 2011 Mattel.

I seem to have found the info I was looking for. Both the Frankie and Draculaura are re-releases.

Are those readily available at stores around you? If so, would you be willing to help me out with buying them? I'd be happy to keep an eye out for something here for you as a favor in return :)

i wanna say they are re-releases  from what i have seen all the boxes from wave 1 are designed differently and have more of a coffin design window then the plastic sides.    I also just found both of them and i do not believe mine were wave 1 either but still happy i have them!

Eeeee! I'm going giddy with want! If someone can get ahold of these new ones for me, I would love to buy them and add a little something for your trouble. But I could only pay in two weeks at soonest, or I have a scaris deuce I could offer for trade instead, though I would value him at eBay prices.

While I'm not sure what the first release looked like in South Africa - the ones you've pictured here look great, I think ! - the first wave packaging released here in 2010 resembled a kind of 'Trapper Keeper' notebook. Like this ->

But everything after 2010 and that first series looks like yours. I think you have the first ones released there, but it's definitely not the first ones released Stateside. I'm sure that clears everything right up !  :silly:

Sadly, all my boxes had to be trashed in a move, or I'd check UPCs and item codes for you. Hopefully someone here still has them - and everypony I've met here has been a pony every pony is glad to know !

They resemble the European packaging somewhat. I mean the South African ones. Does where the dolls have been released affect their value negatively? By this I mean is a first release in say Europe less valuable than first releases in the States?

I  would also be interested in those basic set dolls if they are available in stores near you. I could also help you get something from my area that isn't available in yours,Maniah above also suggested. I am from Scandinavia.
