My love for MLP originated with Midnight Castle.  I also likes escape from Catrina.  After that I kinda lost track of the cartoons but my love for the toys lived on.  I was thrilled to see Generation 2 toys just because ponies had been gone for so long, I thought that era was completely over.  I bought 3 of them. I later thought G3 had some of the best looking toys and couldn't resist getting a few.  I kinda lost track of MLP for a few years after that.

It was a friend that convinced me to watch FiM.  Loved it!  I didn't know if I wanted anymore toys but eventually caved.  As brushable toys, I think Twilight Sparkle and Sunny Rays are my favorite.

About a year ago, just the opposite happened.
I accepted G4s. At first I... didn't much care for their look or design. But the customs and blindbags brought me into liking them. Just like you and the older gens, I never thought I'd see a sizable amount of G4s in my collection but now, there they are.

I started out strictly as a G4 collector. I only had 3 MLPs as a kid, so I never really had a connection to the older gens. I only started collecting G4 after getting into the FiM show. I have never looked at the older gens at thought "I just don't like these ponies". My interest in older generations comes from the current lack of non-mane-6 stuff available. I don't really want to keep collecting the same ponies over and over, so I just recently decided to pick up a few G1s. Will I become an avid G1 collector? Who knows! I actually just posted recently about branching out into G1, and I am super excited that I have a couple on the way.

What a wonderful story! :3  I had tons of G1's when I was little, but my mother sold them all off in a yard sale.  Years later, my niece was born just as the G3's came out.  It all started with one little G3 pony (Daisy Jo) and just exploded from there.  I collect all gens, and at one point prbly had close to 1,000 ponies hanging out all over my room.  I've downsized my collection, but still adore ponies.  :)
