Is goof-off okay to use to remove marks?
« on: January 19, 2013, 11:52:49 AM »
I'm sorry if my google-fu is really lacking today, but the only things I really managed to find was using goof-off to erase cutie marks or to deflock a pony. I have a new pony that has a rather unfortunate black mark right on her nose that magic eraser won't take off. My dad suggested Goof Off since he has some, but I'm afraid it would strip her of her color (she's pink).  Or is there maybe something else I could use?

i would suggest acetone but only if you really really dilute it before even attempting it. I use it to take off symbols all the time , and I also rinse the pony a lot immediately after doing so.

I see...that sounds kind of dangerous and I'm afraid of messing her up :( We already have Goof-Off here which is why I had hoped if I had just used a tiny amount it might have worked. It's such a strange scuff since it looks like pencil but it's definitely permanent, and were it on any other place other than right on her nose I might not be as upset about it.

It won't strip her color unless she's a painted 2" figure.  Use a drop on a Q-tip and wipe, then quickly use soap & water to remove any residue.

Thanks! :) She's just a regular G1 pony so hopefully she'll be safe. Maybe to be extra sure I'll try a test under one of her hooves or something to see if she fades or anything, just in case. She's one of my favorites and it's looking more like I won't be able to replace her, so I'd like to try to repair her if I can without causing even more damage than she already has.

Be careful with Goof Off...If you leave it sit too long it will damage the plastic! I use it to remove stubborn paint for customs, but I would try other stuff first. Goof Off is powerful stuff!

Perhaps I should only use it a few minutes at a time? I tried nail polish remover which has acetone in it but it didn't seem to help at all. I thought maybe I should just paint over the mark but I think that would look very obvious :( I'm not sure what else to try but I don't want to leave it alone since it's right there on her nose.

Use a qtip with Goof Off on it, and rub the spot. Wipe it dry with a paper towel between swipes with the qtip, and wash with soap when you are done :)

Thank you guys! It worked!  :frolic: You can only see a very, very faint mark now where it had once been, she looks SO much better now! I was really afraid of ruining her and it took a bit of scrubbing, but after awhile I could definitely see it was starting to lighten up. I've never had to pull out the big guns before to clean a pony so I'm glad this wasn't a catastrophe xD

Thanks again you guys  :lovey: I know it may not seem like a big deal but this was so scary for me to try, so I really appreciate having you guys to back me up with your experience and kindness.
