Ack, a little help with custom hair D:
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:47:44 PM »
Ok I rarely have to ask for help with dealing with custom hair, however, this one I think I will need some help.

I'm working on a commission for a friend and got her rehaired last night plus glued in today... I put the neck plug back in with some problems and started to style the hair, when I noticed one or two plugs were loose! apparently the hot glue didn't get to it... which has me worried for the rest of the hair as well. The problem is I can't go back in and add more glue from the neck due to the plug is now in and would be hard to get off! And I don't have any more of that hair color x.x

Suggestions?

have you tried the tool-knot method?
make a real knot in the middle of the hair, but a pin in the hole you want to rehair, put the knot-hair on your tool, pin out of the pony, knot in. sometimes you could need more pushes, but it will stay securely, as the plastic will pull itself together again and the hole will be to small for the knot afterwards.

I can try that, it looks like the plastic between the plugs got torn, but only those two... Why I didn't catch it before I don't know

I think the knot method is the best way to deal with ripped plugs because you can make a thicker plug and anchor it with the knot or use a few plugs in the same whole to fill the void.

If it was me I would take the neck plug back out and reglue the strand and repair the damaged spots.  It's the best way to ensure the custom will survive the longest amount of time possible.  What probably happened is when you brushed the plug broke and the bit came out because it wasn't glued firmly. I'm sure you could snag a little piece of hair on the dh trade board or you could thin out the tail a tiny bit if you only need one plug or two. You could also style around in and use that plug for a hair pin or flower.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

The Neck plug would be hard to take out because I have nothing to grip it easily, but if I find more hair plugs like that I guess I won't have a choice... this is one reason I dislike about the G4s

Edit: yeah just tried to remove the plug again... no go x.x This will teach me do triple check

If you need one I make cast resin replicas of G4 neck plugs.  I am still in the trial phase but the ones I have sent out have held up fairly well. Unfortunately many of my testers never got back to me so I don't have a lot of reliable data on durability.

I would love to test it, however, this pain the tail pony doesn't want to give me any room to get the plug off XD I'm the type that completely removes the plug from the pony then replace it in the head first before into the body ._.

Ok I was able to get the plug out but now I might have to redo the head... stress damage, ick... Oh well live and learn
