Are you a MIB collector or a deboxer?

Well I keep my G1s in their box, definitely. I open almost all G3s except for duplicates. I have a super long hair pony Dream Blue who I hear is kinda rare so I keep her in the box. It's been so tempting to open her, I'll admit.
And G4s I definitely tear open.

I adore MIB and MOC, therefore I buy some G3 double to have them both ways. For G4, if I get one MIB it stays that way, if I get them loose, it's ok too. And G1, I want to collect my childhood ponies MIB and MOC.

^This for my g4s. But for older ponies, I'm finding that I prefer to rescue them from thrift stores.

That's a good question.  For me personally I really want to open my ponies but, I hate opening them.  It's a love/hate relationship.  I just don't want to ruin them but, why buy them if I can't play with them.  And by play I mean pet, hold, and admire.

I only collect G4s since they are more readily available, and I open every pony since I like to set them up with scenery and playsets and take pictures of them. The only ones I don't open are duplicates of ones I've already opened, so if I don't find a customising purpose for them, I can hopefully sell them MIB one day when they are harder to find.

I like loose and MIB. I buy loose ponies but if I get a MIB one, I'll generally keep it MIB. I love to see the ponies on display with their accessories in a box. Except for anything with batteries in it. I'm paranoid about the batteries rupturing and leaking acid or something. It's happened to me before.

I prefer mint-in-box.  I voted MIB all the way, but it would depend.  I realize that some people purchase and showcase their items, and they are as good as new, only out of the box.

I love MIB/MOC items, and would personally never debox a vintage item. I just love the way they look on display with their accessories on the card, especially G2! As moc G1 items are a bit pricy, and I do enjoy having ponies loose as well, I only aim to have a few select things moc, and most of my G1 collection is loose. G3s I often get doubles so I can keep one of each.

I debox just about every pony that comes new from the store. Older gens...no.

g4- yes! If I got a g1 in box, I'd sell it to someone who collects in-box ponies and buy me a loose one. I don't like packaged ponies but I'd never de-box a g1.

I think this is what I was trying to say but you said it better.

And a lot of the reason I started collecting G4's was the thrill of being able to go to the store, buy a new pony, take her home and open her. I wasn't collecting when G2's and G3's were in stores, so it makes me feel like a kid with G1's again! I can get MIB G3's off ebay or here, but it's not the same as getting it at the store for some reason.

I chose the third option. I wouldn't debox a G1 or something that is worth like... three times its loose price if it's MIB, but everything else I debox. I feel like they're suffocating if they stay in the box.

I only have one MIB pony and it's a G3 Midnight Dreams, only because I'm still on the fence about selling her.

I do have a lot of G1s MIB but to be honest other than a couple of dozen of them, I would sell them if I could track the pony down loose and complete with his or her accessories. I prefer loose and complete over MIB and it is so frustrating trying to complete a pony when its easier and cheaper to buy her MIB/MOC!
