Thinking about culling my collection--how do you deal?
« on: April 02, 2013, 10:07:35 AM »
I have no room left. At all. And I want new dolls. So, some need to go. But, it's going to be so hard getting rid of some of them, I just don't know what to do D: AUGH this is so confusing ;.; How do you guys deal with letting dolls go?

I always aim to keep my collection as small as possible, so I'm getting rid of a doll in favor of a new release now and then.
I don't know if it helps in your particular situation, but here is my usual procedure:

First off, I always set a limit. For example: "I'm only allowed to have two dolls of each character" or "I'm only allowed to have 40 dolls total".
Then I try to determine the dolls that can stay by asking myself:
  • Which character do I like least?
  • Which face mold do I like least?
  • Which color combo do I like least?
  • What outfit looks best to me?

This is usually a good method to narrow a collection down.
I hope you're not too emotionally attached to the dolls of course. Because otherwise it can get a little hard to say goodbye.

I am a hoarder. It is quite difficult for me to let go of things in general. I have been forcing myself to do it more often nowadays, because my place has gotten pretty cluttered in the past. I don't know what I would do if I had to let go of my dolls, luckily it hasn't reached that point yet.

How do you keep your collection? Are your dolls out of the box? Would it be possible that, in case you have your dolls on display, you could rotate them? Leave some in storage for a while, while others are displayed?

Yeah, they're out and on my bookshelf. And I would totally just forget to rotate them.
I actually just went down to my room and took each one in hand and weighed how I felt about each emotionally, and am now prepared to let a few go, I guess.

I'm at the point where I seriously need to let a lot of things go. :/     I am literally out of room everywhere. I actually just sold off my werecat and witch CAM dolls cuz I decided that I just don't like them as much. I am also thinking about getting rid of my Ghouls Rule Abbey since I already have two versions of her that I like much better.

But it's hard to deal. I probably have about 30 MH dolls and I feel like I don't need them all, yet it's hard to get rid of some.

Maybe limit yourself to only two of each character? That's what I am trying to do, unless one that comes out that I just HAVE to have, LOL.

Good luck with your decisions!

Yeah, My GR Abbey is probably heading out, too. She'll be the easiest for me to get rid of, actually.

I also had to let go of some dolls in my collection.  I tried to keep the characters I like the most or the collections I like the most.  I also thought about replacement value.  If you sold a doll, and were to change your mind and want her back, would she be easy to get back?  Especially have to think about if its an early released doll.  I also thought about the size of the box since the thin boxes take up less space.  Its hard to let go but there are some really nice new dolls coming out soon!
