Doll hair question from a newbie
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:26:44 PM »
Hello!

So I'm totally new to dolls, and really not a doll person except for Barbies since I loved them as a kid. I recently pulled out my childhood Barbies I saved and two of them are in need of some TLC. I was about to rehair one of them, and then it occured to me that maybe dolls don't use the same hair as ponies!

So I am wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of hair Barbies are normally haired with, or if there is a kind of hair any Barbie or similar doll collector's like to use on their dolls!

Thanks a bunch!

Barbies actually have a few types of hair. I have some with the cornsilk and some with the normal nylon.

How bad is her hair?  Cut?

Yeah, it was chopped to about 2 inches long. I already popped off her head and pulled out all her old hair. I've got another Barbie with long hair but it's super dreadlocked, and so I've debated rehairing her as well, but then she's also got a chewed hand and peeling legs as well.

I've never heard of cornsilk... Where would one buy cornsilk?

I'm saying cornsilk is the very fluffy type. I have a few Barbies with it and it is tough to work with!

That's a neat find! Thanks for sharing. And it sounds like Saran is commonly used with Barbies as well. I've never used Saran, perhaps I'll have to try it since I've seen custom ponies with it.
