Absolutely agree Relcelestia, if I can't afford the cab I quite simply do not go out. My car literally is my life, I need it for my kids....I can't imagine losing my license! For a drink!!! Not to mention its so dangerous to other road users too.  I know people who have been banned for drinking and driving and they have never lived down their complete stupidity, I can't believe people do it!! :argh:

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

Great thread!  There's really no excuse to drink and drive anymore.  I think there may be more companies like AAA who are trying to help people get home safely.  :)  Even if I'm wrong in that, there are SO many ways to get home in one piece, and without risking the lives of others.

Or be like your wine cellar hostess, just drink at home, way cheaper and easier to find your bed.

But seriously, do not drink and drive.

But my friend taught me this great trick he learned in law school! Haha.  Most of my drinking is done at home.  My friends who have parties are either so out of town I spend the night or I'll drunkenly trek the 3 miles home.  3 mile walks are good for sobering up.
Unfortunately, they don't offer that AAA in my state.  Possibly because they know all the lushes will be out tonight.  I hope everyone  has a safe and happy new years!

I have to agree - though I'm probably too late - to give a shout out to anyone reading this or even just skimming through:  DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!  You could kill yourself or someone else, worst case scenario. *hugs*

Indeed. It's a pity I'm not more familiar with the city even though I've lived here for almost 3 years.  I mostly stay out in Metairie and the East.

I am glad to report that all of my guests last night made it home ok this morning :D 2 guests who weren't drinking (due to one being pregnant and the other unable to drink) went home since they live 10 minutes away. The two guests who were drinking bunked on the futon and I forced my mom to stay the night because it was going to be close to a 2 hour drive for her to get home and it was 1 in the morning, so I said bunk it up.

I did no driving at all.  My sister and I went downtown for fireworks and took the light rail (kind of like a monorail I guess).  She didn't drink at all, except a sip of champagne at midnight, but still crashed on our couch because it is just safer to avoid all the OTHER drivers, even if you're responsible.  :)
