Jasco: Did it change?
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:59:00 AM »
I hope this is the right place to put this, but I didn't know where else. I am back to deflocking a herd of So Softs after my "I'm moving no I'm not" hiatus

I went to use my Jasco and not surprisingly, it was dried out. So I trekked up to Lowes in this cruddy weather and bought a new can. The can design was different, but it still said "Jasco, Brushable, Semi-Paste."

When I got home, though, there was nothing pasty about it. I am trying to brush it on and it is just as thin as acetone, which I use well away from symbols like in the hairline.

Unfortunately, most of the deflocking tutorials out there are years old and do not allow for a formula change in Jasco. And nothing on the shelf looked similar.

Experiences? Suggestions?

Hmm I haven't tried Jasco in a long while.  Jasco is kinda iffy either way as it can "burn" some colors of pony plastic.  I have switched to acetone for the non painted areas and rubbing alcohol on the areas with paint.  A lot safer but it does take a little longer to work.

I know Jasco comes in a a few "flavors" There's a 5 minutes stripper, a 15 minute stripper, a varnish and stain remover. I always used the 15 minute stripper. I think there is or was a green stripper too. You might have gotten the 5 minute kind? Mine was always pretty liquid with a thickness to it, not watery, but close to it. I guess I would relate it more to cooking oil as far as viscosity.

No, this was the 15 minute, same as the last bottle, because I compared them when I got home. Exact same except for the can design. I think I'm returning this because it's no different or better than the acetone!

Yeck, that is weird. I would consider calling Jasco. From what I can pull up they changed their formula maybe 2-3 years ago from an oil based to a water based, and it's be awhile since I've used the stuff. HMMM.

huh = wish I could help you but I haven't had any problems with my can =  like you, I got mine at Lowes I'm thinking it's about a year and a half old now, and I've used it fine even on the painted areas I just don't leave it on but for a second or two so it won't harm any paint but takes the glue right off... but CSA is right on with rubbing alcohol and more patience if you don't have jasco for deflocking - I agree with the contact the company thought

oh = and have fun = I love love love the look of deflocked ponies  = so much better and brighter!

I know my old can wasn't more than a year old, so that shouldn't be the problem. But thanks, every suggestion gets me closer to a solution.

Thank you! I have done all my pegasi, have 3 unicorns and 6 earth ponies that just need finishing touches, then 2 unicorns and 3 earth ponies that I haven't even started. Some of them, however, are a good bit deflocked on their own. I just don't think the flocking has held up well over time, the glue yellows, and yes, they are so much brighter deflocked!

Yeah, using Jasco or paint stripper can discolour the plastic in some ponies - I've noticed it with Twist, Best Wishes and Shady. So I only use it on symbols and eyes, and I generally use acetone for the rest. :)
Looking for: Alternate Birthflowers, Baity wingers, So softs - both minty and for deflocking - and DREAM BEAUTIES!

I thought this an appropriate place to put this as any.

Dear Hasbro,

WHO in their RIGHT MIND thought it was a GOOD IDEA to PUT FLOCKING AND GLUE AROUND AND IN THE PONIES' EYES!!??

Ok sorry, I'm better now  :argh:
