Tinsel hair styling
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:20:33 AM »
I have just bought 3 of the Crystal Empire mane 6 - Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle.  I'd like to style their hair to be show accurate, but am unsure as to how the tinsel will style, especially in Pinkie's perm style.  Will it curl the same? I use hot water and straws to curl my girls hair.

Incidentally, I get the feeling that the tails on these girls are fuller with what seems to be more hair?  Might just be due to the simplified packaging not tearing out a load of hair as I try and extricate the pony from her tomb/package  :P

I don't know about that specific type of tinsel, but the clear tinsel that's used on a lot of pony's hair, will curl up really strange just from warm water. That's why I detinsel my ponies. I'm not sure if the colored tinsel will behave differently or not, but I don't think it will curl like the rest of the hair.

Hmm I think I'll just put their hair up in a fancy Gala do, thanks.  I don't really want to de-tinsel them since that's the reason I bought them because they are different.

Thanks ShortyBoo

Yeah, Tinsel - not as easy to style as I thought - yes I can hear the more seasoned stylists chuckling out "I told you so"  So I have settled for an easier option which is just as pretty (I think anyway!)

Here's Pinkie Pie looking super cute!!

Both the butterfly clips and pink mini elastics (seen in Pinkies hair) were from Pound Wise (UK)

Yes tinsel...I love it but it is not a stylists friend unfortunately.

I believe it is tameable and stylable with serious determination but if I am honest while I have managed to straighten it - I have never managed to do much more with it as it uncurls or falls out of a wave faster than the nylon hair which often looks odd and thats the few times I have managed to get any kind of curl in it at all!

I hope someone else has some tips - I would love to try them myself.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
I love Loa more than PonyLady!

I bought the princesses from Target awhile back. The tinsel styled ok for me. I used hotwater and bobby pins.
