Would you bait a pony with regrind or cancer?
« on: December 17, 2012, 05:17:14 PM »
I have a Powder with regrind and a Skydancer with cancer. I put them up on a sales thread, but they haven't sold, most likely because of those reasons. So, I'm wondering, would they make good baits? I'm really torn.

I'm pretty sure frizzy hair doesn't make a pony bait worthy, though... Or does it? :huh:

I'm not a customizer, but sometimes the regrind/cancer marks can show through the dye. As for frizzy hair, I don't think it's bait unless it's extreme frizz where you may need to rehair the pony. It also depends on if the pony is rare or not, I think. I wouldn't bait a Mimic or Bright Eyes because they have frizzy hair or cancer/regrind. Again, I'm not a customizer so I might be wrong.

Some ponies that are really prone to cancer or regrind, like Gingerbread, Quackers etc I wouldn't bait. But those two...if it's bad enough, yeah.

It's really up to you. For me it would depend on the pony and how bad the problem was.

Of course, frizzy hair by itself doesn't make a pony bait, but in combination with other problems it can. It may help if you post pics.

I've absolutely baited ponies for Cancer, Regrind, and Frizzy hair. Definitely if it has one of the first two.  The third if I really need that pony with a clean body, but plan on customizing the rest. :p

Hmm... The pictures don't really show it very well, but here.

The pink spots are much more apparent in real life. There are some on her non-display side too, which I didn't take pictures of.

There's the cancer... You can also see a cut tail and symbol rub. ^^;

Based on the pictures, and in my personal opinion, Powder is not bait-worthy.  It appears as though those spots are pretty small and for a less picky collector, might not be a problem at all.  Skydancer isn't marred *that* badly, but I would say that the symbol rubs on her would make her an elligible candidate to me.  I have never customized anything other than new out of the box ponies, though, so I have no idea how these age-related "illnesses" might affect painting, and these assessments are solely based off of my personal opinion.  I don't think that there is any "right" or "wrong" answer here :)

I agree with Katika; Powder doesn't look baity at all, and Skydancer is so-so. Some would probably say not to bait her; then again, I doubt she'll find a new home easily in that condition. The combination of cancer, symbol rubs and cut hair would make her okay to bait in my book.

I'm probably in the minority, but I would think it would be ok to bait them.  Cancer/ regrind are incurable and often just continue to get worse as time goes on.  Both girls are common ponies and probably would fetch $2 or $3 at most if sold.  I've seen those bright pink spots like on Powder spread all over my Forget Me Not flutter :(

I am one to say to not bait Powder, but Skydancer is fair game.

Oh my, please don't bait that Powder! I know you said the marks are worse than the pics show, but even then, based alone on the tiny section of her I can see, she looks to be in really nice shape. It can be difficult to find her with such nice symbols, and her hair looks so bright...yes, she's relatively common, but she's still G1..

As for Skydancer, she is prone to cancer as far as I have seen. My childhood one has a great body, but her head is starting to look more brown than yellow due to all the spots it has. Would you be interested in trading them for G3 baits? =)

Absolutely! :) I've been wanting to cut down the amount of G1 customs that I make, anyway.
