PC: Legos Possibly Worth Something??
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:11:03 PM »
I just love me some advice on selling things that aren't MLP.

I have a metric butt-ton of Harry Potter legos sets from the first move up to the fifth, including the full Hogwarts Castle, the Defense Against the Dark Arts room, the Knight Bus, Hagrid's Hut, Hogwarts Express, Harry's home with the flying car, Honeyduke's Sweet Shop, the Goblet of Fire: Graveyard Duel, the Durmstrang Ship and some others I can't think of off the top of my head.

I googled some of these to see what other toy sellers were selling them at and I was getting crazy prices like over $400 for the Graveyard Duel set which... I don't believe, haha. $130 for the Hogwarts castle I CAN believe but seriously guys, I have no idea what these are worth.

They're all pretty much mint, just really dusty. Some small pieces might be missing (they're out of the boxes) but most of them have their original instruction booklets and everything.

So... Anyone wanna give me a price check? I need to make room in my basement and as much as I loved these as a kid...  :( if I'm gonna get ponies I have to get rid of something else in the meantime.

I don't know exact prices but the lego HP stuff is still pretty sought after. If I could afford them, I'd LOVE to buy them from you! Unfortunately I'm poor lol.

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan though. I would say hang on to them. You might end up regretting selling them. Value is only going to go up over the years.

But.. if you're sure and want ponies instead. Go for it! :)

I really don't want to let go of them but with each passing day my dad gets angrier and angrier about it and mom and I are unsure of his mental stability as it is... If I could find a place to put them that wasn't in our house, then it would be a different story. I'll try to find somewhere else to put them but I'm not holding my breath... xD"

There are tooons of lego collectors and builders out there. The sets usually tend to at least hold their value pretty darn well. ^-^ Even if it's a super common set that has been in production for years and years, people still buy them for parts. Lots of the retired sets go for crazy prizes though and prices come and go in trends much like MLP. For example, I have a now retired lego set I bought for $130, now it's actually SELLING for $300-$400! O_O

As long as none of the unique pieces are missing it shouldn't affect value too much since a common colored basic building block can easily be replaced. I would certainly search the completed auctions on ebay and compare sold prices. It's always helpful to find the set number too and search with that lol. I found the graveyard set which was missing a couple pieces sold for $102 with 18 bids on it. :)

Lego's have a huge market and older sets almost always seem to retain there value ++.
Don't ignore ebay prices there pretty spot on for legos and are usually easy sellers.

Gonna bump this to try to help you get some responses.  Also, butt-tons are my favorite unit of measurement.

I made a lot of money a couple years ago when I sold off my Star Wars legos, so I'm sure you will have no problem there. I would keep an eye on ebay and watch a few different sets and see what the average is.

eBay is gonna be your best bet for pricing really. Be sure to look at the COMPLETED listings, not just what is active. That will give you the real information about what people are actually willing to pay. If you see any completed listings that say "best offer" be sure to actually click those listings to see what the accepted offer was.

Now if you're not going to sell on eBay I would recommend going about 10%- 15% LOWER than the average ended auction price since with selling outside of eBay you won't get hit with the final value fees and such.

The LEGO Harry Potter line is being discontinued this year so I imagine all of the sets will go up in price within the next couple years. I've recently gotten back into LEGO myself and was shocked to see how much retired sets can sell for!
