Dear Sniper...
« on: November 09, 2012, 09:37:18 AM »

...you've made me very sad today.

I just got sniped on a grail - by £1 in the last 2 seconds! -_-

Some ponies one doesn't mind getting sniped on, but I really wanted this girl.

I think there was a thread like this last week...
Highest bid always win, sniping or not. You can't be sure if they put in £1 more, or £100 because it's proxy bidding. They just put in higher than you.
*hugs* but I am reaaally sorry you lost your grail. ;__;* that always is a bummer. ;O; hopefully there will be another auction soon...

Yes, please remember, their max bid could have been real high, but it just appeared that your bid was close.

sorry.

You didn't lose because of a sniper - you lost because the other bidder was willing to pay more!  That's how it always is.  Bid with your maximum price and if it goes above that, then relax... it went for more than you were willing to pay.

I am so sorry you missed out on your grail...there is nothing worse. All I can assure you is that in all my years of collecting there are very few ponies or accessories or merchandise that only come up the once so I am sure she will show up again. Although I understand that assurance doesn't stop the frustration.

Just remember as others have said, whomever out bid you could have put in a price $200 above your max bid - its almost unlikely it would be just a dollar. Unfortunately the person who bids the most, whether they bid 1 week or 1 day or 1 second before the end of the auction wins.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Sorry you missed your grail. I hope it comes up again. Just remember to put in your max bid next time right away. It sucks to loose when you were willing to pay more. It also sucks to think you're winning and then loose out at the last second... not a fan of sniping either. I put in my max and then leave it until after the auction's over so I'm not tempted to go over-budget! If I win, I win, if not I try again next time. Sucks to figure out too late that you were willing to go higher though, my Littles grail was lost that way and I don't think I'll ever find her again...

I think the thing was that I really thought no one else was interested in her, because up until the last 2 seconds, I was the only bidder.

For this reason I didn't put in my max bid. Now I realise I should always put in my absolute max bid because some people pretend to not be interested and then sneak in and snipe.

A lesson learned. She's a nirvana that I have not seen come up that often... but I'm sure I will get another chance... :hope:

Many savvy  buyers won't even "watch" the auction as it notifies the seller of doing so - they either register the bid with a sniping program and walk away, or they bookmark it and stalk it.  Most of the time, Ebay auctions are less of an auction process and more of a "stampede to the bidding table" as people throw down their cash and whoever brings the biggest stack wins.  ;)

Best of luck finding her again!  I'm sure she'll be all the more loved when she does finally make it to you.

I am sorry for your loss.  I have lost to sniper bidders with my own sniper bid.  Its tough,,,,but that is online auction.  If you don't want to use sniper....bid up at the last second just to be safe. I have done that before. You will find your grail again.  Sigh...its happened to me too.  I always tell people not to bid until the end of an auction.  Watch your item...and always know if you are interested in it...someone else will be too.  Expect those last minute bids. Not all of them are sniper bids.
