Blind Bag Painting Issue
« on: November 10, 2012, 09:37:15 PM »
So I decided my Blind Bag Doctor Whooves needed a friend (http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,311761.msg453213.html#msg453213), so I started to turn Berry Shine into a TARDIS. But as I'm painting her with white paint (to make the blue stands out better. Glad I did, wasn't gonna) the paint is beading off her. I finally got enough slapped on her but is there a coat of oil on the BBs? How do I go about prepping in the future? Soap and Water? A dip in Acetone? What do you guys suggest? And should I scrub the paint I put on her off and prep her better? Will my paint peel off or should it be fine? Has anyone had this issue before?

What type of paint did you use? I haven't had it bead up on me before, but it sounds like the paint maybe a little too thin if it is. Lately, I've been using Goof Off to remove paint from blind bags and haven't had any trouble yet, although sometimes it will make the pony a little slippery at first, once it's dry, it's fine.

Just some standard run of the mill acrylic, Delta Ceramcoat.

This is actually a pretty common issue with craft paints. Not sure why, but it is. I use the same paints for mine and what I tend to to is apply a thin coat of your paint with a make up sponge smearing it about. You want just a very thin layer. Then whip out the hair dryer and dry it. Once dry you should be able to proceed as normal.

Another option is to take 400-600 grit sand paper and run it all over the pony. I do this with my g4 brushables. It scuffs up the finish on the plastic just enough to help the paint stick

Another option is to apply a thin coat of gesso over the BB. let dry over night before painting. I personally don't like this method, but it is an option for you. Hope this helps.

I haven't had that problem but I usually acetone mine first anyway so that could be why. Ellis1342 has given you several great ways to fix it so I won't bother repeating them. Good luck though!
