Cleaning question
« on: November 04, 2012, 01:12:00 AM »
Hey all,

While going through the box of ponies we found at my mom's I found Merry Treats Christmas pony in the box - at the bottom - ON some yellow tape that my folks didn't put something over the seam from the INSIDE to protect the ponies when they packed them up when I was younger, and now she has yellow on her. I was wondering how to get it off because simple bathing didn't work. I think I can get it out of her hair, but I've been unsuccessful getting it off her body using a toothbrush and wondering if anyone had any ideas. Here are the pictures of what she looks like now.

Your pics aren't showing up, but I'll do my best to offer advice regardless.

The first thing I'd try is a Magic Eraser. They work very well as far as removing most stains and marks. In fact, I was cleaning something the other day that had Sharpie marks on it. The marks were at least ten years old, so I figured they'd be pretty permanent by now. But the Magic Eraser took it right off! Just be careful around symbols, paint, and blush. It's never happened to me personally, but I have heard other members' stories about it taking the paint off.

There are some stronger cleaning methods as well, but tbh I've never tried them. Many other members have great success, though, so I'd wait for a more experienced person to give you advice on those other methods. Best of luck to you!

I was just reading about orange oil as a remover.  Anyone tried that?

I will have to try the magic eraser, thanks, Mosspath. :Wonders if we have any...:

I am doing pretty well today, Rybett, but no, not tried the orange oil. I was thinking Melaluca oil though as it gets rid of gum and thought it might work on the hair if not the body.

Is the yellow a stain, or is it glue residue? Rubbing alcohol can potentially take off the glue residue without damaging the paint, but you may still have a stain left over. Sunfading would probably be the best way to get rid of that, but it's hard to say since your pictures aren't showing up.

If you can fix the pictures that would help :)

But I second Mosspaths suggestion to first off try a magic eraser and if you have no luck with that then sunfading may be the next best option.

I would also go the sunfading - protecting her symbols, eye etc. of course!

Fixed the pics so they're visible. Also, I think it might be both a stain and tape residue. I told my mom about the suggestions and she says she has some magic erasers I can pick up when I'm there tomorrow. So I'll try it tomorrow afternoon and then post my results. Thanks for all the advice.

Hmmm...thats a much bigger area than I imagined. I still think an initial magic eraser to start with however you ll have to be really really careful at the symbol however be delicate and watch you dont remove her paint.
