honestly I use both methods. Primarily, anymore, I use the tool. But when I have ponies with softer plastic, or tighter plug patterns, i use the thread method.

I use the Needle and wire method... One day I'll sit down with my rehairing tool and try to learn it.

I used to use the wire method (close to the thread method) and it took me DAYS to re-hair. Now I have switched to the re hair tool I get one done in about 2 hours or less even with my ADD self!! I won't go back. It takes practice, but once you get it---you got it! I use Pop-girls tool BTW.

O.o I can't say that I understand the complaints about the tool chewing up the ponies hair line. I rarely ever have a hole split into the next hole. And even on a pony with an FBR I have no problems with the tool. It doesn't scrape paint up unless I am careless when I pull it out of the head.

I don't know what needle size other folks offer, but I have tiny needles which I prefer even though they can't hold extra thick plugs. I also offer two larger sizes for the folks who wish to work with more hair at once.

Once you are used to the tool and learn to use it properly, needles rarely break. The only times I have broken needles in the past year have been when I was improperly using the tool to poke at things like glue, or my keyboard, or just randomly poking holes into a box >.> never when actually Rehairing.

I used to use the needle method or something similar but I rarely have the time for that and I find it very tedious. I think it used to take me a few days to finish rehairing a pony. That being said I do use the rehairing tool. I think it makes things a lot easier for me. :)
