I am also allergic to it.  You can still use it if you get barrier cream and the irritation is only a skin rash.  I also get swollen face so I don't use it but I haven't found a comparable air dry alternative.  ^^

The only one I've used that is pretty much the same as Apoxie is going to be Magic Sculp. It's practically identically in every way, so it's possible that it might contain the same ingredients that you're allergic to, but I'd say it's worth a shot to check it out.  You can find in store some places too.  I had a friend in California pick it up at Michael's I think.

This might be off topic but how common is it for someone to be allergic to apoxie sculpt??
I've always wanted to buy some but I don't want to be stuck with something that I can't use.

Well some people are straight allergic and some people kind develop sensitivity after using it a while when the chemicals seep into the skin and you can't tolerate it anymore.  Some people have trouble with just the fumes that are released so they mix it and let it sit for a while and then they can use it.  I get a rash anywhere it touches like hives and swelling in my face (eyes and lips mostly).  Barrier cream or gloves work to protect the hands but if it's the fumes it's harder.

Have you considered just buying a little clump off someone to try it?  I have shipped a little glob in saran wrap or in a little jar for people to test before.  Save them the trouble of spending a fortune just to try it.

I know its a bit expensive so I've been waiting to purchase it.  I never knew that there might be an issue with me being allergic to it.  I don't want it to turn out to like a ring I bought and loved, months later it started eating away at my finger.  I'll definitely consider what you suggested I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions!!

As to the ring... I has a ring I was allergic to and I coated the inside of the ring with clear nail polish.  I bet you could use sealant too.  Anyway it helped for a while at least and then I'd have to redo it when it wore off.

If you want feel like paying for shipping I can send you a little glob.  My stuff is kind of old, but I think it should still work.  Just be careful.  I would feel terrible if you reacted badly to it.

You could try using milliput, it's similar, and is still a two part air dry clay. I would check what's in it first tho as I'm sure they will have some similarities

Hobby Lobby ( my job ) carries Sculpey III. I got a brick of it in white to patch up tiny pin prick holes in a g1 baby.

thanks for that.

I do use cream and gloves, but my eyes and lips puff up after a while. I was fine the first few months then just suddenly started reacting to it :-(

They call this something specific like a 'developed sensitivity' or something.  It's been described to me like this: your body absorbs the chemicals into your skin.  After a while your skin can't handle any more and freaks out when you are near it.  So they recommend always using gloves/cream/mask as a preventive measure so you don't develop a problem.

My palms used to get itchy when working with Apoxie but not anymore... maybe it works the other way round, too? :D I always mix it with gloves like instructed but I could never wear gloves while sculpting.

Same here. My hands used to get itchy after working with it for a while but not anymore. I tried mixing it with gloves on but it just pulled at the gloves. Now I just lotion up my hands and mix it bare handed.

One of my hands doesnt tolerate it anymore, but thats only new so for 6 months it was fine, now its horrible, so I have to wear a glove on that hand always, and the other one is fine. hope it stays that way!
