damaged in the post... usa- nz
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:08:10 PM »
Hi
I received a pony from a lovely seller here, the pony was sent from the us to nz. It was sent first class.
I was surprised but happy to see it arrive her after 5 days... when I got it I saw a little hole in the bubble wrapper but thought nothing of it until I opened up the parcel to find this

half of her ear has been grated off... now I have no issues with the seller please be clear about this, she was well packaged in my opinion, she was sent in a bubble bag with and extra plastic bag around her... both have the same small hole that her ear had been forced through. I cant believe a blunt plastic ear was forced through this plastic.
Anyhow enough of a rant my question is this...
The damage is clearly negligence from the postal service ,should the damage be covered by the us postal service?
The seller asked at the post office but they said they can't to anything about it. I asked our postal services who said the person that sent it has to file a claim with there postal provider as the have the receipt. The also said that in NZ damage like this is covered providing I had sent it and had the receipt, even if the item is not sent insured the postal service is subject to duty of care and so they would cover the damage or replace the item as this item is not a high risk item to send and therefore should not have been damaged. I feel the us service should be similar to nz? should they have to pay out for damage? if so where can the seller go to file a claim?

Here are some more pics

Thanks for any help it will be appreciated

the US postal service covers NOTHING if you don't purchase insurance. No matter how clear it is if it's the post offices fault, there is no protection without insurance. It stinks :\ But there's no way to convince them that it's their fault.

Yep :( NoDivision's got it.  If it's not insured, the US doesn't care. :(

And first class is cheap but has no insurance. Priority has insurance but it costs an arm and a leg to get.

And first class is cheap but has no insurance. Priority has insurance but it costs an arm and a leg to get.

Not only is priority mail international the only thing that has insurance, but the flat rate boxes don't even come with insurance. So you have to start off shipping prices with $30 before you even get a chance to have insurance.

It's horrible and it's crushing international trade. Sorry your pony got damaged. It's the usps's fault completely but contact the seller. She may be wiling to work with you.

Oh my goodness how awful! :whoa:  :yikes:
unfortunately I'm pretty sure that the others are right - the USPS will not do a thing about it, even though it is completely their fault  :(  I'm not sure about NZ. I'll see what I can find out

Yea and I have even been involved with a package damage and insurance and the USPS found a way out of it and didn't cover it even though it was insured.

oh that awful about the us post : ( The seller was really nice and offered a partial refund but I don't feel so good about taking it cause it wasn't her fault, its just not a nice situation to be in. Thanks for helping me out thou with info.

I can see how it will affect international trade which is horrid : ( I used to love buying from overseas but now after this and a lost parcel all within a few weeks of each other really is making me think twice : (

Thanks again thou

Such a shame :(  and she is a most divine Italian!  I think she is still lovely despite the 'ear trim'.

oh darn hun that just suck big time and she is a beauty too :( big pony hugs coming your way.
the thing is did it happen in nz or in the us or in flight, that is so anoying though its not insured you pay all the money for it to be delivered and get that. oh grrrrrr
i guess we paying so much to post things over seas works out better in the long run cos our end is all covered

there used to be a collector here who's moc nirvana she splashed out on for her birthday present was ripped open by nz customs and accessories lost with big dirty finger prints all over the pony and packaging
it like play Russian roulette with getting things in from overseas, after soo many you are bound to get a nasty outcome........im of to update my bad one

big hugs hun

First, I am so sorry your pony got ruined in the mail. )': I can't imagine how awful that feels...

I must be reaaaally weird, but I actually think she is really charming with her little battle wound. I somehow wish that I could have a pony with a burnt ear. O_o
