UPDATED 9/07 - Buyer can't pay through Ebay - This isn't a trick right?

I opened a non-paying bidder a couple days ago since my buyer didn't pay for 5 days (no contact). A day after I did I received this message:

"hi could u send me your pay pal email so l could send u the pay pal funds my email is not working right now l have good feedback l always pay my item u are welcome to read my feedback please email me threw my ebay mail thank u have a bless and great day
funds are coming from mxxx fxxxxx send item to pay pal address thank u for all"

I told him to go ahead and send me his addy and I'll send him a payment request. So he did and that's what I did. He hasn't paid yet but I just sent him the request like 12 hours ago.

But this whole thing is kind of odd. Is this some kind of trick or am I over thinking the situation? I can't imagine anything he can gain by not paying through the Ebay system. Any idea?

it coud be an issue with pay pal its self,

not sending invoices etc.
i had issues with another site i was ordering thru,  had to pay for shipping sepratly, they insisted thay they had sent the invoice several times, but nothing turned up on my end ,

i ended up having to do it as  "send money"  rather than  pay an invoice.

I actually had this happen once. Ebay kept glitching on the pay screen that links over to paypal regardless of how many times I tried over 3 days. It only worked when I sent it directly to an email address. It was so strange...

I had the same thing happen as Medley did about a year ago.  And it was right around a time when they were rolling out new updates.

I would say considering the amount of trouble folks have been having with ebay lately during their newest updates, they could legitimately be having issues.

But to answer your question about them having anything to gain by directly paying through Paypal, my answer would be no except maybe extra time to pay. 

I guess at this point since it has not been 24 hours you are going to just have to wait and see if they actually plan on paying.  I would not close that dispute though till then.

Could it just be an excuse to pay with a paypal account or credit/debit card which is not linked directly to the ebay account hence the direction to make sure you post to the paypal address and perhaps not the one registered on the ebay account?

I've heard of this happening before to others, and I had someone ask me this too, so  it *might*  be innocent. There have been a lot of issues with ebay  lately   
The only real way to find out is to see if the person does pay you.  Did you check their feedback? is all ok?

Yeah, her feedback looks good. She has 10 all for buying so I guess that means something. All the feedback she has left for people has been positive as well.

She still hasn't paid. Don't worry, I'm not going to close the case until she does. The fact she didn't respond to me until I opened a case and her poor grammar turned me off a little.

I'm happy to hear others have had this problem. It sounds like this is a legitimate issue so I'll wait and hope she pays through Paypal soon.

Update: Buyer just wrote me and said she sent me the wrong email! What the heck? So I resent the payment request to her 2nd email that she gave me.

She apparently switch the "com" with "net". And still no payment.

God, I'm starting to think that exact thing. I'm really doubting at this point if she will ever pay and am considering closing the case with no payment. I'm not going to keep messaging her either. This is for a $3 item!

I wanted to update and say that she did end up paying after I sent the invoice to the 2nd invoice.

But then I noticed that her address from her Ebay account and Paypal were different. So I then had to contact her to ask her about that and wait another 2 days for a response.

She then confirmed which addy was correct and I sent the dress.

It all ended well. She got the dress, left positive feedback and apologized more than once about the hassle :-) So no harm done :-)

This happens to me all the time. Fir whatever reason, paypal cannot pay through ebay sometimes. I think it might have something to do with the time that they send my credit card bill or something.

She claimed it had something to do with her email getting hacked. Who knows if it's true or not but I'm just going to let it go.

Since paypal works through ebay yeah. That does makes sense.
