Question about decals
« on: August 16, 2012, 05:29:17 PM »
I was in the craft section of hobby lobby and noticed all these cool looking decals for model cars. How would those work as a symbol on a pony?

That's a good question. I used decals once and sealed them with mod podge, but the first time they got hot, which is in a box in my car with other ponies for sale or trade brought down to the MLP fair, the symbols kinda melted and stuck to other stuff in the box and were of course ruined. But perhaps others have been more successful with decals.

Hmmm...Maybe you could make a little change to the design and pencil in the design on your pony very very lightly so you can have guidelines? That way you could make it your own, too. Pencil guidelines are a life saver if you have something with sharp angles or specific shapes.

I use temporary tattoos too, they are great :) Couple of layers of Modpodge, never had any problems.

Temporary tattoos? I seriously want to try this now, awesome!
Do you just apply them like normal, then seal them?
I'm excited to do this!

Tell me about the temporary tattoo technique! This idea intrigues me greatly.

Exactly the same way as if you were putting them on yourself, only take care as they slip about more on the plastic. I would suggest practicing a couple of times first. Wait until completely dry and then seal :)

Cool. This may be useful on some ponies of mine with destroyed symbols!

I will say that the paper you buy yourself and print the tattoos does work, however it ends up with a pretty strong seam.  Whereas the temp tats you buy are a lot more seamless I assume because they can be thinner because they don't have to go through the printer and all that. :) In my experiments I like the finished look of the ready bought ones better.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.
