Ashley Judd Movies...

Something silly, but it bugs me. First world problem 'n all that. 

So, I've been watching some Ashley Judd movies because I apparently like to torture myself. Specifically Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy and some other movie I cannot remember the name of. Anywho, they seriously frustrate me how she's basically playing the same character in each movie... "Like, OMGS! All mens are ebil 'cept the older father-like male lead!"

Take Double Jeopardy. She was convicted of killing her husband, which she didn't. So, to get to her son several years after she's released into a half-way house, she runs away... And when caught by Tommy Lee, she ends up trying to drown him and escape... Yeah, that's a good plan. To convince someone you didn't murder someone else by trying to drown them. Makes perfect sense. 

And it goes on and on... Rwah! I know they're trying to play up empowered women in these movies, but it all just falls apart for me. Throw in some scenes of her kickboxing, but that doesn't necessarily work in real life situations. I also find her acting kind of "smarmy", so I dunno. Maybe I just don't like Ashley Judd and find that she looks like a deflated Angelina Jolie.

I think I'm just going to go back to watching some bad horror movies now. They're less cringe inducing.

i get that "ugh AGAIN?!" feeling when watching kiera knightly. i know she's a good actress in pirates of the caribbean, but she plays fancy, princessy, dressy, classy characters in every film i've seen her in. its the same role, every time pretty much.

I can sympahise.
My mum is addicted to 'true movies' you know the sort that are from the 80's/90's and it's stuff like 'you stole my baby' 'i didn't kill my baby' or 'my baby has some sort of horrible disease'
I hate those films so much. D:
They have hammy acting, hammy melodramtic music and are just generally awful. Not to mention when they have the 'angsty late 80's/early 90's teenager' characters.

Although one kind of made me chuckle. It was some film about 'my son isn't really my son' and so the kid when he gets older finds out and well rather understandably freaks out. But the thing is the kid in the film looked nothing like his 'mother' and she was  different enthincity to him so I was thinking 'surely you must have realised sooner'

You should watch Domino. She plays a bounty hunter. Complete opposite of all her other movies.


I feel that way about Cameron Diaz. Something about her irks me, but I end up liking all of her movies.

hmm, i know people will kill me for that, but it appears to me as if helena bonam carter plays always the same woman too. also, she let emma watson play some scenes vor her in harry potter to mimic it. I've noticed that too. I think she gets typecast way too much :/

I had the same feelings about Orlando Bloom, he always seemed to be cast as the same character type, yet I really liked him in the 'Three Muskateers' film that came out recently

I hate typecasted actors and actresses.  I remember Ashley Judd playing only the same character (even in Where The Heart Is, with Natalie Portman.)  Same thing happens with Samuel L. Jackson as the typical "badass" (which I would be remiss if I didn't say that I enjoyed, really), and Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore as that "sweet" girl.  Barf.

Well its very common for an actor or actress to get stuck in certain rolls because they have performed well according to most directors.  So, when a movie comes up they usually get the job again. Its not good for them because it keeps them from exploring other types of movies, say drama, comedy, horror, fantasy...and the like.  The actors that do the best are the ones that have versitility in their acting and a very good agent that helps them select films that won't get them stuck in their career.  I like both Ashley Judd and Kiera very much.  I especially love Kiera. The films she has done take tremendous talent to do and not all actresses can do those.  She has done other films besides period/literary pieces.  She is fantastic, quite talented.  Ashley Judd I think is getting stuck in certain rolls, but I still like her a lot.  So where I can understand why you may be frustrated.  One star right now I am very concerned about is Mila Kunis. She is very good but the films she has picked have all been the same except for a couple.  She really needs to get out of comedy for a while. I would like to see her in pure drama. I know she has the talent.  She deserves the leading roll in a very dramatic film...something bigger than she has ever done..even bigger than Black Swan..which I hated.

Agree Tulagirl...Black Swan was horrible! I like Mila also but she does play comedy and most are "Stupid" comedy. 
Kira plays in Bend it Like Beckham which is a different role for her. But she has this class to her so I think she is a perfect pick for the roles she's played in.
I'm convinced when I see an actor/actress play same type of parts over and over again that they must really want to be like that   Take Martin Lawerence for example...most of his movies consist of being a cop or a robber...lol

I don't really pay much attention to who plays what when I'm watching a movie so I guess the type casting doesn't bug me. I like the movies that I like because I like them, I don't care who plays what part as long as they do it well.
