Iv never thought about it before as iv never made one but you could probably get a long wooden dowel from a hardware shop or online that would make a good pole

I think a few people in the Carousel Swap thread posted links to where they got theirs.  The best person to ask would be Diamond.  She's all in the carousel know.

Could you check thrift stores and steal one from a regular carousel horse (Note: buy the horse before you steal its pole )?
