So Venus: MH related question.
« on: July 30, 2012, 11:11:13 AM »
First off: Ahahahhahahaha! I fooound Venus McFlytrap! Two! So I have one to turn into my MH Persona/OC! Which I am excited to do!

On the other hand, I do get that she's hard to find right now, and teeeechnically believe that collecting comes first. So, my question for all you magical people is this: Would anyone want to strangle me for customizing her at this time, and should I put her up for sale/possible trade instead? Because I know, when I saw a customized Abbey back when I couldn't find her at all, I wanted to punch the girl who'd maimed her up.

I definitely think don't customize her- I'd sell her. I know that if I hadn't got lucky and am getting her in a trade that I'd give an arm and a leg for her- Sweetscoops really wants her, If you sell please think of her xxx

I don't know how other people will stand but in the end it's your doll.  I would really like to find her but I'm going to keep looking and I wouldn't "punch" you for customizing her.  I feel you should be able to do whatever you want with it.  I wouldn't worry about what other people, do what makes you happy.

I still haven't found her, and I know a lot of people haven't. But it's your choice. More will show up.

I say, go ahead. Venus and Robecca have been out for, what, three weeks? Give it a few months and I'm sure they won't be so "rare" anymore. I think it's kind of silly to call them "the elusive two" when they've only been out for such a short time, honestly. People acted the same way when Rochelle was first released -- I remember one person on eBay trying to sell her for a BIN of $500 -- and now, Rochelle is very common. The same thing happened with Operetta and Nefera.

Venus is not an SDCC exclusive. She's not even a store exclusive! She's just a doll that hasn't been distributed fully yet. Don't feel like you're obligated to sell her to someone just because there's an "OMG NEW RELEASE" craze.

Yay glad you found her!!! But your last sentence basically sums it all up for me. lol

BUT then again, you bought her, you paid for her, you buying her and then customizing her is practically the same thing as opening her and playing with her. XP

Rather very contradicting I know. It's heart wrenching, I hate seeing it happen and I'd love to go all Rocky, but there's nothing I can do to change people's minds and like I said, she's yours, who am I to tell you what you can or can't do with your toys. XD

I kinda agree with everything here.  I don't have either of them yet, but I'm not worried.  I think Abbey and Spectra were flukes.  Mattel was added new characters to the mix but only one case assortment at a time.  I think they've learned their lesson and have better case assortments coming up.  Yes, it's still difficult to find the boys, and some releases come and go SO QUICKLY, but the basic case assortments will be around for awhile.  I say go for it!

But if you see another, and have the ability to help out someone, do that too:)

And let's not forget that Abbey and Spectra have both since been rereleased, and are not nearly as rare as they once were... So, if Venus did somehow become as rare as Abbey once was, I'm positive that Mattel will release her again in the future. ;)

I say go for it! I'm hunting for Venus at the moment and plan to make a custom with one, so I don't see why not!

I'm totally planning on making one into Poison ivy, so I'd say go for it! She is your doll and yours to do with as you see fit. Right NOW she's hard to find, but so was Rochelle and every other release when it was new. Now I see Rochelle and its like ugh YOU again?! :P Like others said, anything not-exclusive will eventually be very commonplace and easy to get ahold of.

I only get irritated if it's a badly-done custom personally- I think if you're just starting out it makes sense to use some cheap, not-so-pretty dolls (I think bait is the word I'm looking for). Having said that, Venus is a cheap doll- just hard to find currently, and she'll be better distributed in the near future.

She's clearly the ideal doll for your custom idea so go ahead I say! She's your doll and you can do whatever you fancy with her  :)

Then I'mma maim her up if none of my friends her want her. I want to make a Leprechaun, and I just finished a Frankie of one, though halfway through the rehair I decided I wanted a secondary silver color, and finished up she's pretty? But so washed out. I want the bright, bold green skin that Venus has for my girl.

Also, Poison Ivy customs will be awesometastic. And mean there should be some Harveys for her, because they're a cute, semi cannonical couple...

Update: So, I will not be maiming her after all... my friend Mel was seduced by the Color!ness, and has claimed her.
