Hi all! Here are the cleaning tutorials we have copy and pasted from the old Arena. We hope they continue to be a helpful resource for everyone.
Pindot Removal Tutorial From Rhys:I've seen alot of people wondering how to remove pindot mold - those tiny clusters of black dots that love pony feet and ears mostly, also known as smooze- and I don't think I explain the removal process properly (yup, the majority of the time it CAN be removed; quite easily, too) so I decided to make a semi-pictureal guide.
Its rather simple. Things you need:
Bathroom/kitchen sink
REALLY hot water
smoozed pony
liquid antibacterial soap in a pump bottle for easy access
fingernails (or a small steel brush would do I suppose for the fingernailless among us)
patience
First we take our smooze victim. In this case, a Masquerade.
Say hi, Masquerade.

Now we examine the pony for smooze.

\"Oh, I'm sooooo embarassed!\"
Don't fret Masquerade, we'll have you right as rain in no time!
We ran the water really hot, until it steams. Be careful to keep your fingers away from the stream! Now, after waiting for the water to get hot we take the pony and hold one affected area under the stream. For smooze removal, its best to tackle one area at a time.

Think of it as spa treatment, Masquerade.
You may have to hold the area under the stream for a minute or two. What we are doing is using the heat to open up the pores in the plastic. It doesn't hurt the pony, nor is it noticable. It just allows us the ability to remove the smooze.
Once you think its been long enough, add a dallop of anti-bacterial liquid soap directly to the smoozed area.

No. Now we lather the soap, rubbing it into the affected area. Once that's done, use your fingernail (or steel brush, you poor, poor fingernailless friends) to scrape back and forth across the smooze. Like you're trying to scrape a sticker off a packaging. Really scrub.

*sigh* Okay, now we rinse off the soap and check the area. This is where patience comes in. Some of the dots should be gone, but more than likely, we're gonna have to retreat. Hold her back under the water again, after a minute, lather, scrub, rinse, repeat if necessary.
\"This is boring. And my foot is hot.\"
Yes, but it works.

"I feel like a new pony!"
And you look more like one.
The key is patience, patience, patience. And you won't need to boil water, oxyclean boil em, or whatever other method that costs more money or takes more time is. A $1.50 for the soap and water from the tap.
Ears - easiest to clean
feet - next easiest
wings - harder, but not difficult
necks/bodies - woah, takes a TON of time, but do-able most of the time
So grab your smoozed ponies, and get to cleaning. visitors can't see pics , please

I just gave her a five minute bleach bath and left her in a sunny window for two days. She isn't a perfect white, but considerably less yellow! visitors can't see pics , please

Removezit:From Gizmo:*Warning: Picture heavy!!!* Lots of collectors who are picky with quality usually dream of solutions that could magically remove molds/smooze from their ponies and/or restore their yellowed white bodies back to their original shade. We already know how to repink, rehair, repaint, but molds and yellowed whites are permanent problems that remain unsolved.
I tried pretty much everything (except the sun method) and even though I was able to improve some a little, the result wasn't 100% satisfying.
However, I read about Remove-
Zit and there are people in different communities that swear by it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a thread that discussed this product in detail around here and there were never pictures showing before and after results. Therefore I thought it'd be a good idea to order it and try it on a few ponies that I'm dying to fix.
So I received my Remove-
Zit and Formula 9-1-1 package today in the mail, and I immediately took out my three candidates:
Trickles,
Confetti, and deflocked
Paradise.

zit doesn't work well on them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will first start on
Trickles and
Paradise, here are detailed pictures of their flaws:

Once a super mint SS Paradise, stored her in a box for a few months and she came out as yellow as magic star, deflocked her to improve her body color but still not white. visitors can't see pics , please register or

She has molds all over her body green dots here and there that do not look like pen marks visitors can't see pics , please

Today I applied Remove-
Zit on Paradise's back legs to test and see if it would improve and lighten the color or make it worse, as I've heard that it *does* yellow some ponies.
I also applied it on the NDS of Trickles and didn't mind risking it around the symbols, I tried to be as careful as possisble using a tooth pick and hopefully it won't remove the paint/glitter on the symbols.
Here's pictures of today's applications:

According to the package directions, it should be left on for an entire day first, also it may take months for these marks to disappear which is fine by me as long as they WILL. The point of this thread is to see how effective this product is on ponies and whether we can count on it or not.
Tomorrow I'll be checking on them and will take comparison pictures, if they show any improvement then I will also apply Remove-
Zit on Confetti!
Until then, fingers crossed! visitors can't see pics , please
