Forgive The Newbie Question.. What are nirvana's & grails?

I am assuming nirvana is a very rare pony... and grail extremely rare, or a personal sought after pony?

Nirvanas are ponies that were only made/sold in certain countries. Therefore they are usually very rare. More info: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Nirvana

Grail is a pony that you want VERY much.

I am curious of how the term "Nirvana" started for non-US/English ponies. Grail is definitely a "Holy Grail" reference though, like people are on an unending quest to get a certain pony.

Grails are the ones you personally want the most.  Something specific that you seek.  For example, some may have G1 Rapunzel as their grail because of her rarity.  I wanted G2 Miss Painter because of her rarity and bold colors.

Bleh, sorry.  My descriptions are awkward.  Someone else can describe grails better than I can.

I think "Nirvana" came about because when they were first discovered in the late 80's and early 90's, people thought they were a hoax.  "Ponies MADE in other countries?!  NO!  Can't be!"

Nirvanas are USUALLY ponies that were actually made in countries other than China/HongKong.  But they can also be rare prototpyes and other Hong King ponies that are rare or very unusual for some reason.  The meaning can be a bit nebulous.

I think "Nirvana" it because getting one of those ponies is like  heaven to some people.  Or maybe they envision nirvana being ful of those ponies.

I thought nirvana came about because of the forum "Pony Nirvana" on here? I was told this was the first board discussing "foreign" ponies and therefore the name then stuck to the actual ponies? Where they just pullig my leg or is this true?

I remember reading somewhere that the term Nirvana came about because collecting foreign variants was a "higher plane" of collecting so to speak. Foreign ponies are generally much harder to find then US ponies and are often very expensive, so it's sort of the next level of collecting

Nirvana is an MLPArena coined term for ponies a that were "made in foreign countries, along with rare variations and prototypes from Hong Kong/China"

And a Grail is a pony or item that you are desperately on the hunt for - doesnt have to be rare, it just has to be something you really really really would love to add to your collection.

Aha, that makes sense that "Nirvana" would be like transcending to a higher level of collecting. Interesting answers, guys.
