Need Help Guys..What kind of Airbrush for Dolly work?
« on: July 19, 2012, 07:47:01 AM »
So I'm looking to get an airbrush..Preferable not one that's going to cost me an arm and a leg, but one that's good for a beginner that I can use on my doll customs..Mostly faceup bases, and perhaps pony customs. Can you please give me your suggestions on machines, and where they can be purchased? Thanks!

Hi!!!
What's your price range and do you have a compressor? That's what really costs a lot of money.

I don't have a compressor, but I suppose I'd have to plan to get one. Really, I'm open to considering all price ranges right now so that I get something that's going to last. Btw salli, I haven't forgotten about you. I'm getting the stink eye from a half haired pony as we speak. lol.

Lol, I know :) I cannot believe how busy this summer has been! It's crazy! I can't believe it's more than half over too... No hurry, your gal is just being her charming self on my shelf of swap pony projects :D

Yep, you have to get a compressor. I got a small one with a super lame/cheap airbrush on EBay years ago for like $50. The airbrush was horrible and useless. I invested in a nice Iwata Eclipse Dual-Action for $125 this year and it was SOOOOOO worth every penny. I feel really dumb for not saving my pennies as a teenager and buying one then. It would have saved me so much time/money/headache over the past 2 decades. I highly recommend it. So, all total I spent $175. Not too bad. I don't know much about compressors but mine seems to work fine so I don't think I'll try to upgrade unless it does someday.

Oh, and I got my airbrush at a drafting and fine art store. They seem to charge more for compressors because they know you have to have one. I hope this helped at all :)

I have my grandmas ancient gravity one. It's the double action type. It works great. You could try to find an used one on ebay. Mines from the late 70s, early 80s, those things were built to last!
