this IS going to sound cold hearted but ..its 100% true

most spca run places WILL NOT take ANY used toys, bowls beds even food new bags of food tehy wont even take...they only want your money....did you also know in most cases they do NOT WANT TO TAKE animals in and actualy CHARGE for it..they would rather see the animal neglected or abused or let run wild before they take it

heres something to also consider..they are FILMING these animals BEFORE caring for them WTF seriously havnt they suffered enuf.......same can be said about some starving village in god knows where...and it cost you HOW MUCH to air that and how much MORE to fly in the camera crew the editors etc etc etc....you get my point

you want to help out..go give some help or stuff to a LOCAL shelter be it for animals or humans..help localy before you help globaly

my girl is a vet high enuf up the food chain to have delt with these types of places personaly.....ive had my own mixxed runins with these places both in the fact i took in some neglected animals that became too much for me to handle...as well as having animals pass under natural causes and wanting to give away good useable stuff...my girl working for a vet gets her hands on TONS of STAINLESS dishes bowls etc..spca wont touch em

so yeah im not cold hearted i just hate the corperation running that garbage!

Well I know they are sad but I don't jump up and scramble for the remote to change the channel. They are commercials, and just like all the other commercials, they are just ignored.
There are a few other ads on tv that annoy the heck outta me, but if I changed the channel every time they came on I'd be channel flipping all day.
I also do not donate to those charities. It is not my job to save all the neglected animals in the world, just as it's not my job to feed all the starving children. Sorry, but I have my own pets to care for and myself to feed, which I am just barely able to do every month. It especially makes me mad when a stranger asks me PERSONALLY to give them money for something. They do not know me or my life at all and sometimes I literally only have a dollar to my name and I'm just trying to get by.

Again, im going to pipe up and ask that things remain civil.  This is a very sensitive topic for most people.

As much as I prefer working with the local shelters, I can say that our SPCA did take new unused treats with a note that said 'for the dogs only, not to be sold'. It was concidered a donation and we did get a tax return reciept for them as well as a warm 'thankyou'.

Not all operate the same way.  You just need to know the facts..and if you do want to give something, make sure that theres a note attached to express your wishes and go there in person <3

Check out a shelter's website or give them a call before you donate. They're usually looking out for specific things, so maybe your good-intenioned donation would be absolutely useless to them. This happened A LOT after the Haiti earthquakes. People were sending anything and everything to them, so victims of the quake ended up with yoga mats and microwavable food instead of something that can help them.

I do not donate money to charities, pure and simple. I have worked for enough rescues (RSPCA as well as several small, independent rescue centres) and seen behind the scenes to know that if I want to help, donate actual items. The bigger  charities have offices, which then have their own expenses such as office maintenance, PR staff etc etc. I would rather give a big bag of dog food or bedding as I know that unless the Chairman or secretary has a thing for Chappie it will definitely go where I want it to go!

One of our cats is ours because one shelter would not take her because we live in another county, the other, I forget the reason.  That one told hubby to let her loose somewhere.  Ariel is happily snoozing on my bed as we speak.

Do you guys know that show "Animal Cops"?  They sometimes show a blond woman who is an animal cop on the show and she also did a commercial similar to the ones I've been seeing but she is on there personally, you don't hear a random person doing a voice over.

Hearing the truth about shelters like these makes me sad.  Especially when someone said they are filming them before they actually take care of them and the fact that they turn away most donations and just want our money.  It sickens me.  Sometimes I donate.  Like at stop and shop or something there might be a table set up to donate some money for a certain animal shelter and you can also be entered in a raffle.  Those people seemed genuine.

I try to change the channel but sometimes it's hard because all you want to do is help the animals.

I change the channel the minute they start. :( They're so sad and I know they upset my girls tremendously. They'll ask me if we can go adopt the animals and I tell them that we've already adopted Sadie (our dog) and Ace and Felix (our cats) - they were all shelter animals. As much as we'd love to save more of them we can't afford to properly care for more than 3 pets.

I personally ignore them i would rather donate to a local shelter that i know how the animals and all are taken care of. I am more than happy to donate if i know EXACTLY where that money is going to and how it is used.

The local SPCAs and Humane Societies are not connected with the national organization and very little of that money goes to help animals in shelters since they try to lobby for laws to help animals (some of the laws are helpful like to spay and neuter your animals but some are stupid). The good thing is local shelters need more than just money. (tho sometimes I drop a little change in the collection thingy at the pet store)
