Bending wire to make glasses?
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:08:58 PM »
I'm making a certain character into a pony that just would not work without glasses. I've triend bending paperclips and jewelry wire but nothing looks right. Can I see either tutorials or examples of ponies with glasses? Or even just some tips would help out. Thanks!

I only have one pony that has glasses.. but I need to redo her at some point
I just used 18 gauge wire (not my first choice but it was what I had at the time) and some glue on the ends to keep them from being sharp.... They are removeable due to a magnet in her head that holds them

Well I used a large paperclip for my ponysona :)

I bent them around using mainly 2 beading bent nose pliers: one to hold the wire with the edge of the plier where I want the wire to bend at and the other to pull the wire and bend it. Since the bent nose pliers have a narrower tip towards the end this helped out bending the small sides of the frame :). Then I cut the excess wire with cutting pliers, aligned them working around the glasses with the pliers and added some krazy glue to close whatever tiny gap was left at the tip of the wire :). I followed the same bending direction as sd_dreamcrystal's pony, just added more bending points ^^. Good luck!
