Another Blast from the Past!

(Not sure if I should even post this embarrassing nonsense, especially at 1.30am when I'm struggling to stay awake, but a few people asked me to upload it so here goes nothing!  )
 
Does anyone remember the thread I posted a few weeks back about a clay model of two ponies I'd made as a child and recently uncovered?  And how I said it was based on a fanfiction series I wrote as a child and recorded on cassette tape?  Well, I found the very first Black Pony of Darkness story I recorded (when I was nine!)
 
It actually dates from before the actual series I wrote, when I was just forming the idea in my head, has very little plot and consists of an annoying child doing a lot of screaming and shouting in an incoherent English accent!  Even the first part lasts about 45 minutes so I highly doubt anybody will want to listen through it all, but I'm trying to make copies of all of my cassettes and thought people might like to listen to a few minutes of it and have a laugh anyway!

Who says G1 ponies were "boring" and the cartoons were so "badly written" that they couldn't inspire children to write imaginative stories?  In this tale, we have a girl who has such a special bond with a certain pony that she will die if she fails to save him, a vicious Black Pony whose special talent is "shooting lightning bolts from his eyes", unconscious ponies who might not make it...  In the second part (which I will try to upload later this week), one of the characters transfers her soul to another person in order to help him regain his strength. 
 
This was pretty dark stuff for my standards!  Too bad I didn't write a decent story with it.

I think it's cool honestly and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who use to record on cassette tapes. Myself and my cousin used to record ourselves playing with MLP. I've still got them all!

What I want to know is how you turn it into MP3s? What sort of equipment do I need to do that???

I still have all my cassettes from my childhood and I would love to be able to put it into digital form and share it with my cousin, just so we could laugh and giggle again about the old times.

Eeeeee! How awesome! I too, used to record stories on cassette. I had an original series about dogs in the pound, inspired I think by the scene in Lady and the Tramp. My friend and I also had a radio program.

You are super adorable in this video! <3 We are the same age, too bad we didn't know each other then... lol, my favorite thing in the world was to make up stories about ponies and adventures.

It just shows how creative and spontaneous children can be, it's amazing and delightful.

Ha, Clover was a very angry bunny at times - he loved to "attack" inanimate objects that were put in front of him, and that keyboard was one of his favourite "victims".  It still has the tooth and claw marks to prove it!

I'm embarrassed to say I transferred this tape in the most unprofessional way possible.  I just set the cassette player up, positioned an ordinary cheap USB microphone about four inches from the speaker to try and reduce "popping" sounds and used the free Audacity program to record.  Then I had to remain very quiet while the tape played through!  The quality's not as good as the original cassette, of course, but better than nothing.

We have a LOT of old records and cassettes to transfer though, so we're looking into buying this when we can afford it - http://www.clifford-james.co.uk/buy.cfm/music-and-tv/6-in-1-music-centre/68/yes/49121  I don't know if you can get a similar music centre in the US, but I will let you know if this one works.

I so wish I'd known other kids who liked to make up stories and record them on tapes.  I think we'd have had a great time!  Instead of that, I was constantly told that I was "weird" and should "grow up".  Mum thought she'd made her biggest mistake giving me a kiddie tape recorder for my 3rd birthday...I thought it was the best thing ever!

on another note... aaaah that is so adorable. x3 I wish I had done something like that, I certainly had plenty of stories with my ponies when I was a kid, but I never recorded them. xD

I'm only half way listening/reading your audio/comments.  It's really cute!  Reminds me of how I also use to tape myself on a recorder but that was in the 80's/early 90's.  We'd sing play pranks on it (like saying to my mom what we wanted to drink for lunch into the recorder but not really outloud (that kind of thing lol), we'd make up flash news reports which nothing to say but to be obnoxous. lol

Such of a wonderful thing to have from your childhood!  Thank you for sharing, it made me smile and giggle a lot.

I used to do those sorts of things too!  I loved my tape recorder...

Many years later I used it to record "letters" to my friends who moved across the country - it was great to hear their voices when I got my "letter" in the mail!  Ah the days before cell phones and free long distance!

Your accent is awesome and u are so dramatic! I was terrible at that sort of stuff as a kid anytime I had to perform, read or record anything I went completely monotone... He he!
