Trade Advice
« on: June 06, 2012, 03:34:47 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am desperate for a School's Out Lagoona, as you may already be aware, and I found one a week or two ago on eBay that hadn't sold. When I contacted the seller, she initially wanted scalper prices for her, but I suggested we trade instead and she seemed to like that idea. I hadn't heard from her in a while though until this morning, when she e-mailed me to say she'd be willing to trade her Lagoona for a NIB Dawn of the Dance Deuce (who is quite plentiful down here). The doll will cost me about US$28 plus US$15 for shipping, but I see that he sells for a lot more than that on eBay. Seems like a pretty fair trade to me.

The seller has a good track record on eBay. She was nervous about doing a trade, though. I don't think she's done one before and is afraid of getting scammed. I offered to send first, which she accepted. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on how to a) put her more at ease and b) make sure I'm not getting scammed myself. I don't think she has an account here at the Arena.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jonathan

p.s. She sent me a close-up pic of her Lagoona's face and it looks legit ... that is, it doesn't look like a photo she's just pulled off google. Plus, we've been chatting quite a bit now, and she just sounds like your average mom who shares an interest in MH with her daughter.

Just swap photos with your usernames written on Post-It notes, or a whiteboard or something. Anyone who would be offended at the request is either new to the Internet or has something to hide. :F

Congrats on finding a Wave 2 Lagoona! She's by far the cutest one!

Do you mean photos of us or photos of the toys?

Thanks! I agree. She's gorgeous. I've been desperately wanting one ever since I saw her in Picklepud's line-up.

I also have a wave 1 Lagoona on the way and have a Mad Science Lagoona lined up for me in Australia. She is quickly becoming a tie for my favorite character alongside Frankie.

I think she means photos of the toy with a sticky note next to it that has your username. :P

the user name on a sticky note with the toy is always helpful for putting people in a trade or buy situation at ease. that way you can confirm that the items in question are actually in the persons possession.

you can also reassure her by sending her links to your ebay feedback as well as trade feedback you have on any other sites. you can also ask her for the same (tho given that you found her on ebay, you know her feedback there)

sometimes you just have to take a chance and send first....especially with people new to trading. given that you are both in communication, it sounds like she is legit.
providing scans/copies of receipts or delivery confirmation/customs form number are also a good route. shows the person you are trading with that you have, in fact, mailed their item :)

good luck! and congrats ^_^ I love wave 2 Lagoona!

OK thanks very much guys. Those are some good ideas. I will do that.

EDIT: That worked! I sent her a pic of DotD Deuce with my username on a piece of paper, and she sent me a pic back of her Lagoona with a sticky note with her username on it as well. Her Lagoona looks perfect! No messed up freckles or badly painted eyes or anything. She also sent me a pic showing a bit of box damage, but I told her I don't care about that since I'll just be taking her out of the box as soon as she arrives. I'm not a collector who keeps everything in mint boxes. I want these dolls to use as my photography subjects! And I have an excellent idea for my Lagoona ... another movie poster, in fact.

Thanks guys! I'm very excited to be getting her at a reasonable price myself (DotD Deuce cost me US$28 and the shipping will be US$15). And I can't wait to get her out and photograph her myself. I reckon wave 2 Lagoona is by far the most gorgeous MH doll released yet. The only thing I don't like about her is that "hang 10" hand, but I can easily swap that out when I get one of my other Lagoonas (I'm getting a wave 1 Lagoona, and Cassemina is looking out for a Mad Science Lagoona for me in Oz).
