How do you remove tail rust in a Sweet Steps pony?
« on: June 04, 2012, 10:13:26 AM »
Well, I've been getting a lot of practice removing tail rust lately,so I know the basics of rust removal, but I have this Sweet Steps baby that I have no idea what to do with.  She has tail rust and I don't know if you can take them apart.  Anyone know?

Someone a few days ago had a question about taking them apart, but as far as I know it wasn't really answered. I'd love to know, myself, because I have a baby ballerina who I LOVE but who's in desperate need of a rehairing, poor thing.

Its not a type of pony I have ever dared to take apart if I am honest - I think the solidity of their torso will be the problem - the plastic is much thicker here so I am not certain how easy it is to get into the tail or even what the connection between head and neck is like!

I ll join you and Calico in hoping that someone can come along with advice!

I just fill a shallow dish or bottlecap with rust remover and set the pony butt-down in it.  Then, once the hair has soaked up the remover and had time ti marinate a while you can work it around with your fingers to loosen up the rust.  It will get SOME of the inside rust, but in the absence of a method for removing their heads I think just getting the exterior rust is about the best you can do.  Can't remove a rusty washer you can't get to, lol!

Thanks Skeen, that's what I was thinking if there was no way to take her apart.  I just cringe at what she might look like on the inside tho.  The other day a pony had "a little tail rust".  I took her head off and she was super yucky inside.  I got her clean, but nothing I can do about this one!

Just popped the head off of one. The back legs block the tail a little bit, with some patience, I am sure you can get it out. Poke it in with a chopstick, grab it with some tweezers, and all will be good.

It might be hard to clean behind the back legs though.

Thanks bandit!  What did you do, just use force and it came off?  Was it easy to get back on?

It was a bit stubborn to come off, but I did it with my bare hands, and didn't warm it up (which would of course made it easier).
It was easy enough to get back on (in fact easier than getting it off)-- probably only spent 20 seconds doing it O_o. It is the same as other ponies, but I think the body part is harder plastic -- so I thought it made it a bit more stubborn.
