Has anyone used real horse hair for a custom?

I've been wanting to make a custom of my horse for a while now.  I have thought about using locks of her hair since she gets it cut every now and then.  I'd love to know any advice or if anyone has ever used horse hair... yes, no, eww that's gross, lol, I want to know your thoughts

I think someone has done that, but I disremember who.  But if it's clean and pretty, why not?

Thanks    I feel like I have also seen a custom with real horse hair a while back, but cannot remember who made it!

I haven't seen one done with real hair ( I also haven't been involved in the customs world for long though). The only thing I wonder about is how hard it will be to rehair with it since real horse hair tends to be a little thicker and more coarse it may be a little difficult getting the hair into the plug, plus getting a "full" look.. not sure though! It could be worth it to try though!

I remember someone awhile back made a ponysona with their own hair. It turned out pretty well, but I don't remember if she said it was more difficult to rehair with.

I don't think thats weird at all, after all they use horse hair for paintbrushes...You're just skipping the step of where you'd have to buy the hair from whomever! I think that would be a cool thing to do anyways. Its like a keepsake/tribute to your horse. I say go for it!

I remember one gorgeous custom had the tail of her real horse and a dollyhair mane (she said the horse hair was too coarse and wouldn't lay right.  Cannot recall the artist though.

I have horsehair I use for some crafts, but have not tried to make it into a pony.  It's thick and rigid...it wouldn't make very good MLP hair.  lol  At least not the kind I have.  Zebra mane...it would be awesome for that, I bet

Colorscapeart- that is a good idea to use horse hair for the tail only.  I figured if I used it for the mane, it would have to be long or else it would look like a mohawk, or maybe more like a zebra mane like hyenacub mentioned
