How many Ponies...

Hi, I've been thinking a lot about that. I really want to know how many ponies were released in each generation. It would be easier to imagine how some people just got only with collecting one generation 700 or more ponies. I would love to know.


Any experts out there? G1,G2 and G3 please.

G1 will be the difficult one to find out, to be honest.  If you mean general US/Europe released ones, then I think there's a set number, but if you include all countries, and versions, we have no idea, really!

For G1, they were made in so many different countries that we are *still* discovering them all!  In the past few years, both Colombian and Venezuelan ponies have been discovered, and new Greek babies were just found, too...

Even with regular G1 releases that can be difficult - for example...do you could lavender Woosie as a separate pony although she is a variant, do you count the German and Dutch ponies as they are HK/China releases, do you could the Euro Twisty Tails even though she is the same pony in a different pose.

Considering no variants I think its about 460 in regular store US G1s, then about 70 MOs then maybe another 165 of the unique internationals [i.e. which still had a China/HK stamp] so all in about 695ish!

This has been bugging me for ages, so much easier I guess to ask how many characters were released? (I have no idea to that either!)

I know that it wouldn't be easy. but the variants don't count as they are still further released characters, or not?

It depends what you want to class as a variant...do you mean you would consider someone like SS WindWhistler the same pony as NSS WindWhistler or NBBE Baby Gusty the same pony as BBE Gusty? If the answer to that is "no" - you would count those as 2 different ponies each then the numbers I have are a good estimate.

id be interested in the total too, what ive been dying to know is a little odd but im curious... on top of wondering what the total was im intrigued in what the original retail price was on all of the sets. i love finding backcards with store stickers on them. =P
and yeah id count the different forms as seperate ponies, as i see TAF is totally different than say, SS or BBE etc. im on the fence with variants too, like purple hair version vs blue hair version etc... tho by the same token i see Ember as being 4 different ponies, so i guess im leaning toward varients being count-worthy.

well yes I would count these as different ponies. so maybe we wouldn't ever know how many were really out there?..
I don't want to think about of what happened to a lot of unwanted ponies. D: wee thats a bit off topic xD
