I need new paints, recommendations?
« on: May 20, 2012, 08:50:58 AM »
So lately I've noticed my paints are starting to split and no amount of mixing will save them.
They are old and were fairly cheap do I wasn't expecting them to last forever. So in light of this I find myself needing new paint.

Any recommendations on what I should look for?
Please bare in mind in based in the UK so certain craft stores don't exist for me :D

Thanks.

I personally prefer Liquitex heavy body professional acrylics, the consistancy is great to be able to use thicker or watered down. I bought them for painting large pictures on canvases though so buying them only for painting ponies may not be justified price wise. They run (in stores) about $7+ in stores, prices go up depending on what colors you want. Dick blicks website has them much cheaper at about $4+ though. I love that brand, Golden is also great for airbrushing too (expensive as well though!) Those are the only two I use so I can't be of much help for cheaper brands :X

Delta Ceramcoat is my favorite of the "budget" brands. I don't know if you have that in the UK though.

I'll second Games Workshop paint, although they're rather expensive if bought singularly. You might save some cash if you buy one of their paint packages.

I've been using Createx paints and some others from other brands
Sad to say I don't know what they have overseas so I'm not the best for a recommendation XD

I like createx and Liquitex paints.  Createx is great b/c it's meant for airbrushing, so I don't have to water it down if I'm using it straight from the bottle.  Liquitex has some great coverage.  I've used Folk Art and Delta Ceramcoat as far as budget brands go.  I prefer Delta Ceramcoat.
