First time dolly hair user, need tips:)
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:34:24 AM »
Hello!  I have some dolly hair and I'm going to use it on a felted pony I am making.  Not exactly sure how I'm going to attach it, probably I will have to make a slit where I want it, glue it, and then glue the slit closed and hide the slit with more wool.  That is not the question (though if anyone has ideas I am open to them!)

What I am wondering is, do you prep the hair first?  Do you wash  or condition it?  It is awfully static-y.  What do you all do before you re-root?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have :) .

i was it after i have rerooted it -- that way it "sections" off better, to make the plugs.
I am interested to see what you are working on :D

She's is stunning! You did a fantastic job on her and she does resemble a flutter pony.
Will you be selling felted ponies?

That's brilliant! How did you make it work? Did you use glue like you originally planned?

Thanks Griffin!  No the glue was out of the question :p  What I did, was make slits, under the chin and the belly near the back.  Then I made little plug by taking section of hair and knotting them.  I took my felting needle and stabbed the know a few times so that it would get a little ratty and not come unknotted.  Then I threaded the plug onto an embroidery needle and pushed it up it the slit to the spot I wanted the hair to go.  I pulled the knotted end as far into the pony as it would go.  When I was done, I could see section of knots, I tried to push them in with my needle as much as I could and then covered them with some more wool...this probably sounds totally crazy and it kind of is:D
