why is celestia white in the show but pink in the toys?

Really?  Since when?  I thought a lot of people loved Celestia.  I mean, sure, at first everyone thought she might be a cruel tyrant, but I think most bronies accept her as a loveable troll by now....?

Dunnoh, but in the beginning there was the tyrant meme you mentioned, paired with lots of "kill the tyrant witch" comments on the more obnoxious image repositories and chans. Then came that silly Civil War meme which upped the crap even more.
The tyrant part may be on the retreat now, but there's still the rapist and troll memes constantly warmed up the lol-randumb crowd.



If you managed to avoid exposure to that, I envy you.




As for the talking toy.
I like how much she loves her pretty barrett. Since she has no barettes or beret bundled with the toy...

Nah, I've seen Celestia plenty of times.  It's dumb, but I don't think it's done because people dislike her; I think they just think it's funny.
As for Celestia....  I dunno, I support it.  I mean, you see the way she behaves sometimes?  You gotta love her for it, and it is kind of sad.  I don't think she really likes being all royal and whatnot.  I think she wants to be seen as a regular pony with flaws.  So I think she acts out occasionally, hoping somepony will call her on her nonsense.  But they don't, and they never do.  Poor Celestia...


....Anyway, I think that's the interpretation I've seen most often, and not just because I agree with it, LOL!

I like Celestia myself.  She annoys me sometimes but I still like her.  The other ponies annoy me sometimes too lol

I did always dislike when toys didn't match the characters, though.  Even as a kid.  Pink Celestia hurts my eyes.

It seems obvious to me - Hasbro has discovered, after spending untold amounts of money on marketing research, that they will sell more Princess Celestia toys if she's pink instead of white. No real need to debate this, in my opinion.

Agree 100% We call her a troll because in a weird way it adds to her personality. Nice, wise and royal - but also a trickster!

I really enjoy the interpretation of her as a troll. I think it's hilarious. She's basically a 1000 year old being who's seen it all; I wouldn't think that Celestia becoming bored and trolling just to amuse herself would be entirely out of the realm of possibility.

I've yet to see any digital artist recommending you use pure white or pure black to colour in anything. I mean, if you're going to say Celestia is bright pink due to being a very pale shade of near white pink, then you can argue Rarity needing to be grey or Fleur de Lis to be violet :/
