Hi guys! Looking for some custom help!
« on: June 04, 2012, 07:59:13 AM »
I'm sorry if I shouldn't be posting this  :( ! I've looked through the tutorials but can't find any for the pony that I am thinking of customizing. She's very well loved with most of her paint already rubbed off (or loved off!) I'm going to try and save her hair, give it a brush and wash it. I was just wondering what kind of paint I could use? I'm not sure if she is made of different material to G1/G3 regular sized ponies (she's massive!)? I'm sorry, I'm just a massive noob! If anyone knows if I could treat her and follow a tutorial the same as if she was a regular sized pony  ^.^ I'd be much grateful!

Regular acrylics should do. I'd remove the color changing stuff first though, tons of acetone and elbow grease should do it.

ah the color change styling bait!
like hanna said, its best to remove all her color change paint (would you believe the original pony is supposed to be white!?) pure acetone would work best. I get mine at the hardware department at walmart (with the paint supplies)...tho Im not totally sure where to get that in the UK.

but as for the other stuff - she is just like a regular pony....just super sized!
rehairing her is quite an undertaking, should you choose to do it --- she has 3-4 times as many hair plugs as a regular pony

can't wait to see what you come up with :)
(and no worries about asking....thats what we are here for!)

Wow I feel silly! I never knew that she changed colour! She is pink almost permanently, and she doesn't change back to white! (I did just have a 5 minutes of fun trying to change her colour back) and I had a quick look at her hair plugs... there are so many! I'll try my best to try and save it first though, it has nice colours in it and is quite shiny  :)  Thank you! I think Acetone is just nail varnish remover on this side of the pond. So i'll try that to see if it's strong enough!

Yes that's right, just make sure your remover has acetone in it and it will work fine. :) Good luck!

I had trouble with Nail polish remover, even with Acetone in it. It smudged the paint more than removing it. 100% pure Acetone works best.

The color changing paint (should change from Blue in cold to Pink in warmth (touching)) requires hard work though. It's mean and tough to remove. Just don't give up. ;)
Good luck!

Nail varnish remover wont always do it - it tends to just smear the paint around and stain rather than remove it. Not sure if you're in the UK or not, but if you are then go into Boots or somewhere similar and ask at the pharmacy counter for 100% pure acetone. It's a strong solvent, so it's not kept on the shelves, but you can get it from behind the counter.

Yeah I'm in the UK, I will have to have a trip up boots! I may give the nail polish remover a miss if it's just going to hinder rather then help! Thank you

I may need plenty of luck and lots of elbow grease! Thank you  ^.^ !
