Thermal hair: Can it be dyed?
« on: April 26, 2012, 05:34:30 PM »
I remember this question being asked on and tested at the old arena but I don't remember the results of that test. After doing Baby Moondancer with Thermal hair I wanted to do others.. but I wanted them to be in semi-appropriate colors (Like if I was to do a baby Glory I would need purple thermal hair). Neither of the two sites I actually look through have the color(s) I want and the only other site I spotted that had more colors was a site for a Japanese company that likely won't sell to hobbyist like myself :(

So the alternative I have is dying the hair. Anyone have tips on doing this or know a place I can possibly find thermal hair in more colors than what DH and My Little Customs has x.x I have a little bit of my Pink to white from my last project so I'm not worried about it messing up too much

You could test a small amount but I'm doubtful. If you dyed it purple I would think that it would affect both the white and pink shades of the thermal. In other words both colors would be purple but possibly different shades.

I don't mind if it's two different shades as long as the colors are different enough to tell. I'm still looking for places that sell thermal hair but batting 0

I did test this on my thermal hair from dollyhair awhile back.  I think I dyed it yellow, and that made the pink orange and the white yellow.  The thermal change still worked at that point, although I didn't save the test swatch and couldn't say whether dyeing affected the long- term stability of the thermal properties.

I thought there was a test done, I'll have to do a test swatch and find out

I boil straightened thermal hair, and it did affect the changing propertys, it doesn't go back to the bright pink, and not back to pure white, it still changes, but not as well as it should.

So don't boil. Warmer water might be safe?
