If you can find a paint similar enough, you can always water it down. Not nail polish though, for sure.

Maybe somebody just needs to get a bunch of baity TEs and do some experiments!

What about mica powders? Jacquard makes a Pearl Ex Interference Violet colour that's very pretty and iridescent. Should I experiment with mixing it into Mod Podge or something?
