Pony mane question....?
« on: April 12, 2012, 11:53:46 AM »
((Sorry if this is in the wrong section, new here. ))
Hi everypony. : ) So I'm having some trouble with G4 Pinkie Pie's mane..... I got Pinkie Pie about a year ago when I had no idea what I was doing with pony manes. Thankfully I'm much more educated on how to do them now. Anyway, back then I used huge gobs of shampoo on her mane. I don't use shampoo anymore unless it is a G1 or G2 bought at a thrift store or garage sale or given to me and has sanitary needs. But her mane is so dry now. I have tried everything I can think of. It is dry, frizzy, and so straight and plain it just sticks straight down behind her back. I even tried curling it with boiling water and cold water, and after the curls dried they limped back straight again. Combing her mane ends in instant frizzies. So, anypony have some advice? I'm desperate over here.

It sounds like your Pinkie has a case of Pinkamena :P I wish I could help, however I'm not much of an expert on styling pony hair. With my Pinkie I just wet her hair and put them in straws. Once they were dry I put a teeeeeeny bit of hairspray in it so they would hold longer. However, mine are slowly falling as well. I don't think it's just your Pinkie, sadly :(

I'm not sure about how to get the curls to stay, but for the dryness, have you tried just conditioning it? I've also heard fabric softener works, which makes sense since the hair's synthetic.

Some of my ponies manes are really dry too. I use a doll wig conditioning spray on them which helps.
I see pictures of some that look so much smoother and prettier than mine though. I wonder what they are using

I think many of the G4s suffer from dry manes.. I've had some out of the box with dry manes. Most of the time it's the quality of the hair I guess that hasbro might have skimped on :|

Conditioner made with olive oil works wonders for me on dry G1 hair! And My G4's seem to do really well with it too :)

have you tried conditioner?

also, you should only really use shampoo if the pony has a dirty mane. since shampoo is made to strip all the oils from your hair, thats probably why pinkie has dry hair now

Fabric conditioner! I find it gives ponies manes a lovely sheen...and due to the "plastic" nature of the mane it seems to help if they are dry and frizzy too...

Dampen hair with warm water, brush through fabric conditioner, leave to sit in the hair the same way you would regular hair conditioner for a while and then wash out...style hair as you wish, leave to air dry and voila you should have tame and "fake moisturised" hair
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

My Fluttershy has this problem. I don't know how to fix it though.
