The Most Random Email
« on: April 07, 2012, 04:06:51 PM »
Just checked my email and have the most random one which I think may be a case of 'crossed wires' as it doesn't seem to be a spam/scam email. (which I do get a lot of)

I recieved an email supposedly from jcpenny about a gift wrapper vaccancy and it's directed to someone who is not me. It has a company address at the bottom and has a 'time slot' for how long the vaccancy is open and also a reference ID.

I've emailed them back with essentially a 'sorry think you got the wrong address, my name is not (name) and I am not in the United States.'

Weird huh?

huh, that is strange O_o
it reminds me when my boyfriend was getting emails from some guy (from a company address too) a couple of months ago, but he never knew the sender, nor did he know what he was talking about. my boyfriend has a really common name and has it as his email address (written in one word), maybe the guy sending the mails thought it belongs to someone else with the same name. at first my boyfriend didn't give a damn about it, but in the end he got upset and replied, telling the guy he's sorry, but it's not the address of the person he things it belongs to, and the mails stopped coming.

I've had emails like that from a library in the UK (yeah, opposite side of the ocean), telling me that I had overdue books. The first one I ignored, but after about #5 I emailed them back and said "this isn't me", so they took my email off the list. I also politely made it clear that I had received numerous emails about this person's late books.... kind of a hint to them that they may need to follow up with more than an email ;)

I've never received e-mails that were meant for someone else. Phone calls, on the other hand... Our phone number at our old place seemed to be especially popular. First, a local company printed it in one of their leaflets, so we had a number of people calling us, demanding to speak to Mr. So-And-So. Most of them were not very understanding when we told them they had the wrong number because after all, they had read it in the leaflet.

A few years later, a new doctor had a number that was almost identical to ours, only with an 8 where we had a 9. Consequently, we got many calls from people trying to make appointments. Once or twice, they started spilling out their complete medical history before we could even tell them it was't us. It was a bit annoying sometimes, especially if we were waiting for a call, but most of the time, we found it very funny.
