Good air-dry clay?
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:23:12 AM »
Hey all,

I usually use oven bake Fimo Soft clay, but my latest project calls for an air-dry instead and I'm a bit stumped.
Apoxie is a pretty firm favourite, right? Where would be the best place to buy a small amount, preferably in the UK? Or are there any other UK-based suggestions? I've seen DAS, but heard bad things...

Most hobby stores in the US tend to carry the smaller pots of apoxie. Any store where they do model planes and cars and such.. Maybe that holds true in the UK as well? Failing that, you can try ordering from the website.  http://www.avesstudio.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=28&category_id=7&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=4

I've been using Magic Sculpt recently, but I also like Apoxie.  Both I've been able to get off of Amazon.

I also have been using Apoxie Sculpt, and have had great experiences with it. Anyone know if it's possible to possibly mail a bit to someone in ziploc baggies, or some such? Then an arena member may be able to mail her a bit and let her play?

It seems possible so long as they are kept seperate. Its combining that makes it harden. But im not sure how well customs would it.

Apoxie Clay = terrorist threat!  :bomb:

I could actually see them having issues with it, too. ):

Moldable epoxy is sometimes sold in tubes, with the two compounds rolled together. Smooshing it around and warming it with your hands mixes it and starts the reaction. It can usually be found at hardware stores. The " big two" in the USA sell them, but I'm not sure where folks elsewhere would go to get it.

I am not sure if it's legal to mail or not. It isn't particularly harmful or anything, but I'd advise anybody shipping it to include the original container, at least. :)
